Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Today, we celebrate freedom and honor the sacrifices made in the fight for justice. There is still much work to do. Let us continue to strive for equality in the workplace and in communities across our nation. The National VA Council wishes you a meaningful, reflective, and happy Juneteenth.

As many of you are aware, the VA recently requested to open our contract for renegotiation. NVAC has experienced hostile negotiations before. It appears that this VA has a distaste for transparency with the public and union members. The VA has requested that the NVAC sign a non-disclosure agreement before beginning our contract negotiations. If the agency plans to negotiate in good faith, what could the agency possibly have to hide?

NVAC fights to ensure that ALL VA employees have a voice in the workplace. Those who care for our veterans should be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. A lack of transparency in the development of the union contract undermines VA employees and the trust they have in their leadership.

If you think that the VA should have transparency for VA employees, veterans, and the American public, share this post. Spread the word.

Politicians are attempting to tag on more than 60 separate bills to the Major Richard Star Act. This massive legislative package is known as The “Take Care of America’s Veterans Act” (H.R. 9237, S. 4744). While the bill package proposes to improve veterans’ health care and benefits, it would in fact do the opposite.

Pass a clean Major Richard Star Act.

The VA has decided to reopen our collective bargaining agreement shortly after the First Circuit upheld Judge DuBose’s preliminary injunction, restoring our collective bargaining agreement. We have endured hostile negotiations before. The VA has negotiated in bad faith before. In the past, your union has filed over bad faith bargaining and won. We are prepared to take every step necessary to protect your rights as a VA employee.

Let a coworker know that negotiations have begun and your union is ready to fight for your rights. Together, we will make a strong contract, strong union, and strong VA.

NVAC is heading back to the bargaining table to fight for the future of the VA and the protections of its employees, because🔽

A STRONG CONTRACT = A STRONG VA

Every improvement in working conditions is an improvement in veteran care, and veterans receive the best care when VA workers have a voice on the job!
