{ Basso } (meaning "low" or "beneath" in Italian) is a sleek basement gastro pub with an Italian accent and a playful attitude. Descend the winding staircase and discover a restaurant abuzz with activity. From the open kitchen with its glowing wood-burning oven to the giant polished zinc-topped island bar, there is much to be seen, smelled, heard, and of course, tasted at Basso. Located beneath the brassiere influenced Boundary at The Cheshire, Basso is no basement after-thought. The 5,000-square foot, 150-seat space features a blend of comfort and rusticity. Intimate leather booths encircle the perimeter and the center bar features a custom-made metal headpiece suspended from panels of reclaimed Missouri barn wood. The 40-seat bar is apropos for a venue that serves up 32 beers on tap. But wine and cocktail lovers will fine plenty to whet their palettes. An Italian-centric wine list boasts a variety of unique pours, and a cocktail list sure to please those who appreciate a unique beverage. Closer to the open kitchen, two wood-topped communal tables offer a great spot to gather with a bunch of friends; or pull up a stool with new friends and take in the culinary action. An original stone fireplace offers a cozy place to relax with a drink. There’s even a semi-private lounge with red velvet couches and funky lighting, perfect for a more intimate gathering.
