Meet the spotted eagle ray. 🖤
Every one wears a spot pattern as unique as a fingerprint, so researchers can ID individuals just by their markings.
That shovel-shaped snout is a tool: it sweeps the sand and reads the electrical signals of shellfish buried beneath, then flat tooth-plates crush the shells like a mortar and pestle.
Wingspan up to 10 feet, and yes, they leap clean out of the water.
Shy and no threat to divers. The venomous tail spines are for defense only.
Listed as Near Threatened. Worth protecting. 💙

Meet the ocean's greatest wanderer. Blue sharks roam every ocean on Earth. One tagged off the coast of Brazil was detected off Africa just 87 days later. But the most travelled shark in the sea is also one of the most hunted. It is listed as Near Threatened (NT) globally, with declines of up to 80 percent in some regions since the 1980s. This Shark Awareness Day, look closer. A healthy ocean needs its sharks.
