Meet the ocean's greatest wanderer. Blue sharks roam every ocean on Earth. One tagged off the coast of Brazil was detected off Africa just 87 days later. But the most travelled shark in the sea is also one of the most hunted. It is listed as Near Threatened (NT) globally, with declines of up to 80 percent in some regions since the 1980s. This Shark Awareness Day, look closer. A healthy ocean needs its sharks.

Meet Jo.
He went to one of the most remote dive sites on Earth, the Revillagigedo Archipelago, just over 500 km off Baja California. He went for the giant pacific mantas. He stayed for everything else.
Jo uses a wheelchair. That part of his story is true. So is this part: he handled getting in and out of the water like any other diver, he held his own with the pelagics, and he earned every second underwater.
After a motorcycle accident left him with a spinal cord injury, diving didn't leave him. It got bigger. Sharks. Mantas. One of the wildest liveaboards on the planet.
Scuba diving is for anyone medically cleared to do it. With the right training, the right adaptive equipment, and the right team around you, the ocean is open. Weightlessness. Freedom. A realm without gravity.
