But this is about more than one show.
Theatre is one of the places where stories become real.
A script becomes a performance. Characters get bodies. Words get tested. Timing changes. An audience tells you what’s alive.
And sometimes, a play becomes the laboratory for a film.
Cooper is also developing Nerves for the screen, which is one of the reasons we want filmmakers to pay attention to what is happening on St. Louis stages.
You don’t have to wait until you have the budget, crew, locations and equipment to begin discovering whether your story works.
Put it in a room.
Give the words to actors.
Let an audience experience it.
Learn from what happens.
Organizations like the St. Louis Fringe Festival, with support from the Kranzberg Arts Foundation and creative spaces like The .ZACK, give artists opportunities to move ideas out of their heads and into the world.
Every play produced, film made, song recorded, performance staged and creative risk taken adds energy to the larger ecosystem we’re building together.
For too long, St. Louis’ creative engine has started, sputtered and started again.
We’re interested in something more sustainable.
Make the play.
Write the script.
Shoot the film.
Build the thing.
Keep St. Louis creating. Cooper Shaw
