Brightside recently visited Antigua, Guatemala, for a wedding. While there, we toured a coffee farm, part of the De La Gente () fee collective that supports small-scale coffee producers in Guatemala through cooperative assistance. Coffee farmer Juan Carlos showed us around a field and, with help from interpreter Luis, taught us about the planting and harvesting cycles. Next, we went to Juan Carlos's home where he showed us how the coffee beans are processed and prepared for consumers. Then Juan Carlos's wife demonstrated the traditional way to roast, grind and brew the coffee. We sampled a cup of two of the delicious brew (along with some delicious cookies) before enjoying a typical Guatemalan lunch at the family table.

Suzanne recently went to a trade show to showcase her product, PLAYAMIGO. She wanted to really stand out from the standard setup, so we chose a corner booth and designed the space to simulate a fun environment where the PLAYAMIGO would be used. Not only was the booth unique, it was economical, using only a custom-printed 10' X 10' backdrop, a retractable banner, a small beach umbrella and a plain tablecloth. The open, colorful plan of the booth drew in many visitors who enjoyed trying out the product!

I have had some professional heroes through the years. I was browsing through the Instagram of one of them (Gerard DuBois) and noticed a post he made lamenting the passing of Brad Holland …a big hero of mine from when I was first starting out. Not only were his images simply beautiful, dark and moody, they were also innovative in visual metaphor and storytelling. RIP Brad. https://blog.graphis.com/journal-illustration-bradholland/

AI has some great tools for editing. But when the tools become the photo, the authenticity is gone. Great environmental portraits do more than just capture a face—they tell an authentic story. The right setting can add depth and context, making your brand or personal image more authentic and engaging. But the real magic happens when the subject opens up and their personality shines.

We developed the Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Performance Report for our client, Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine. The Institute entered the publication in the Health Care Communicators of Southern Care Finest Awards.
