WUSTL Environmental Studies Program

The STL International Film Festival & Brittany Woods Middle School present a special screening of Farming While Black.

November 16, 2024 at the Brown School at Washington University (1 Brookings Dr, St. Louis, MO 63130) at 1:00 pm

Farming While Black is a feature film about the rising generation of young black farmers, based on the book by Leah Penniman. The film will be followed by a panel held in the Hillman Hall's Clark-Fox Forum at 2:45 pm.

This screening and panel are sponsored by the Brittany Woods Middle School’s Education for Sustainability (EFS) Program. The program is offered free to the community in appreciation for supporting sales of Brittany Brand's class-grown and produced products, which will also be available at a pop-up shop during this event. Tickets are free but required. Flyer attached.

This program provides students with great professional work experience with local community organizations doing meaningful work. Students receive at least a $3,000 stipend, and the chance to work with supervisors making a real difference in the St. Louis community. Dr. Wilson’s talk: "Bending the Arc Towards Justice: Transforming Public Health Through Community-Engaged Research and Practice" will describe how historic and contemporary discrimination and racism drives environmental, climate, and energy injustices and related health issues.

The Environmental Studies Program in the College of Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a full-time teaching track position in Environmental Studies at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to begin Fall 2022. Candidates for the rank of Senior Lecturer must have a minimum of six years teaching experience and an extensive record of excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level, advising, and service (such as mentoring and programmatic planning) consistent with Washington University’s teaching-track policies. The initial term of the appointment will be for one year at lecturer rank or three years at the senior lecturer rank, with renewal contingent upon performance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Develop teaching materials and teaching or co-teaching introductory and advanced undergraduate courses on core concepts in sustainability, sustainable business, and ecological economics, including a community-engaged sustainability practicum for upper-level students.
