LifeWork, LLC
Everyone has emotions and thoughts, and sometimes they are really tough to deal with. LifeWork speci We can help you deal with all of these and more!
LifeWork provides counseling, therapy, and education services. We specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), have a growing program for parents called Empowering Parents, and are helping so many people learn to deal better with emotions. Don't suffer through intense emotions, anxiety, depression, feeling out of control, believing you are the only one going through what you face. Don't wait
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that LifeWork, LLC will be closing in November 2023. It’s been 13 years of providing the absolute best DBT we could and helping thousands of people create lives that are worth living and more fulfilling. We’ve helped adults, adolescents, pre-teens, parents and families along the way.
We’re closing for a number of reasons, including challenges in mental health care reimbursement, difficulty in retaining providers and changes related to the pandemic.
It is never an easy decision to end something, and it has certainly been a process of struggling to keep this practice going.
It’s not all bad news over here, however. Several of our providers plan to continue offering DBT services, in private practices that are in the process of being formed. We will make announcements about some of those developments along the way.
We thank each of you for being a part of the amazing work that we’ve been able to accomplish in our 13 years. It's been a privilege to serve you.

Check out our latest blog about experiencing your emotions!
Get Mindful of Emotions We all have them. They don't really go away when we ignore them. They are completely inside us, so we might want to pay attention. We now come to a skill that many of my clients get sick of me bringing up. It is not uncommon for me to mention Emotion Regulation Handout 22 in one of my sessions with....

Hey everyone, here's the latest post. It's on Problem Solving. Might sound boring, and it can be super helpful. Give it a read and let us know what you think.
Got a Problem? *First a little disclaimer note on Problem Solving. If you are just reading this post without knowing other DBT skills, it could seem oversimplified. In DBT, we offer lots of validation (your experience makes sense in some way) before we get into problem solving. One of the reasons traditional Cogni...

Today's blog post is about the DBT skill Opposite Action. A super helpful skill when the intensity of an emotion doesn't fit the situation at hand.
An Opposite Action Can Change Everything In our series walking through the skills, we are up to Cope Ahead and then Check the Facts. As I read those posts again, however, I really need to have someone else review them and get permission for a couple of stories that involve other people in my life. So, we will jump ahead today and cover Opp...

Building Mastery is a great skill to feel competent and confident. Want some of that? Read here.
Want to feel competent, confident? Building Mastery to feel competent One of my biggest fears used to be being found to be incompetent. It’s not a rational fear. There was so much self-judgment living inside me that I often had the thought that if you discovered the things I was not good at, you would dismiss me and I would be ruin...

Has DBT helped you? Maybe the treatment saved the life of you or someone you care about? Today's post talks about some difficulties with providing standard, comprehensive DBT. A treatment that could become less available if some things don't change.
DBT Needs Help, Please Read Welcome to the LifeWork, LLC blog, Wednesday edition. Normally, we publish on Mondays. I was in Jefferson City (Missouri's capitol) on Monday and thought I'd be able to post while I was waiting for things to happen. Swing and a miss there. I went to Jefferson City to testify in front of the House He...

Today's blog from LifeWork is about the DBT skills Accumulate Positives.
I'd Like to Feel Better There’s a skill in DBT called ‘Accumulating Positives,’ to build a life worth living. If you struggle with wanting to be alive at times or struggle with behaviors that could end your life, this is a crucial skill for you. If I’ve lost some of you, stick around for a few more sentences, this ...

Today our post is about the THINK skill, a skill only taught in the adolescent version of DBT. It'll only take a few minutes to read and you might learn something.
THINK about things differently THINK is a skill from the adolescent version of DBT. Jill Rathus and Alec Miller wrote the material for that form of DBT, with a forward by Marsha Linehan. This skill is a way to enhance interpersonal peace and reduce conflict and anger. I don’t know about you, but sign me up for all of that! T- T...

Our latest blog post about maintaining self respect in relationships. Our apologies for posting on Tuesday rather than the normal Monday post.
Standing FAST First, apologies for this post coming on Tuesday and not Monday. It would have been effective to get this post prepped and scheduled to automatically post. Obviously, I did not do that. Last week was a 5 day mindfulness retreat, arriving home late Sunday night and turning around for a funeral on Mon...

Hey everyone, here's this week's blog. Today it's about the GIVE skills.
GIVE it a try Welcome back to the next installment in our Trip Through the Skills Series. We are examining each of the skills taught in DBT and trying to give some real life examples of practicing the skills. Today is the second post in the Interpersonal Effectiveness skills, GIVE. It's another acronym, hopefully...
