Our mission is to empower people and communities to grow food. At Seed St. Louis region. Since 1984, Seed St. Louis.

Louis, we support over 250 community gardens, school gardens, urban orchards, and urban farms in the St. We believe that by educating and empowering individuals through gardening and urban agriculture, we can connect people to the land, to their food, and most importantly, to each other. Louis (formerly Gateway Greening) has become a community of gardeners, farmers, neighbors, friends, and volunteers building deeply rooted, resilient urban communities throughout St.

You may think the planting season is over, but there are definitely things you can get in the ground from seed!

🌱 Beans & cowpeas
πŸ₯’ Cucumbers
πŸ«› Edamame
πŸ‰ Melons (Smaller-sized ones would be faster! There may not be enough time for larger melons. Make sure to check the seed packet for the days needed to harvest.)
🌱 Summer squash & zucchini

We're talking volunteers for our final spring wrap-up! This spring, we welcomed many a volunteer and developed new relationships and connections within our garden network. So far this year, we've welcomed 617 volunteers who have spent over 1,900 hours helping us support 48 gardens and also prepare for and put on our seedling sales. πŸ’š

We also launched our Adopt a Garden program, a 3-year service commitment to a network garden, and welcomed our first two partners in this capacity. Additionally, we hosted winter and spring community gardener meet-ups, which brought together over 20 community gardeners to discuss topics like engaging garden members and examples of how to implement and sustain a communal gardening model.

It's time for another spring wrap-up! This time it's for our School Program. πŸ“šοΈ

We wrapped up our Seed to STEM classes at Mullanphy-Botanical ILC (Investigative Learning Center) and accepted both Hodgen Elementary and Mann Elementary into our Seed to STEM program for the 2026-2026 school year! Since the beginning of March, we have provided direct education to over 250 students and provided 3 garden-based professional learning opportunities for 20+ educators.

We began a partnership with the MO Division of Youth Services, which so far has included education from our staff throughout the summer. We have also accepted 3 schools into our 2026 Starting a Community Food Project summer cohort. Last but not least, we have provided more than $1,000 worth of free seeds and seedlings to school and youth gardens in our network! πŸ₯¬
