Kitchen House Coffee

Well, good friends, we have some unfortunate news to share. After eight and a half years of serving you out of our Tower Grove East location, we have made the decision to close Kitchen House Coffee. We opened in September 2014 with no prior restaurant experience, and it has been an exhilarating ride! Some of you actually suffered through our early learning curve and stayed with us all this time, while others have found Kitchen House more recently. We have valued you all. And mostly, we have been honored to have had the best staff in the city — a team that of course has changed over time, but always brought to the table expertise that we owners lacked, an energy that kept us going, and a perspective that made us better people.

This decision was both long coming and made suddenly. We would have loved to have invited you to come for a week of last visits, but honestly we just are not staffed to do that right now, and we would not subject you or our team to a less than pleasant final experience with us.

We opened with an idea of fostering community, and hope we have succeeded with that on some level. Thank you for being part of that community and sharing yourselves with us. And don’t worry about those chickens — they have a lovely coop and friends waiting for them just a couple of blocks away!

Got some great weekend specials lined up for you! In addition to our “every weekend” biscuits and gravy, biscuits and jam, and cheesy potato casserole, this weekend features an Oatmeal Bowl cooked with strawberries, blueberries, brown sugar, cinnamon,and pecans and topped with banana, chocolate chips, and pepitas; an Oven Roasted Cauliflower Soup topped with bacon, scallions, and parsley oil; and a Spicy Vegan Pho with rice noodles, mushrooms, Thai chili, and scallions. Happy Birthday to our amazing lead baker Claire! Claire has been with us since 2018 and is largely responsible for that variety of treats in the pastry case and some of your favorite weekend specials. And yes, she had that baby, so you’ll have to wait until June to give birthday wishes in person!

These are the restaurants, these are the times, and today is the day (Thursday, March 9)! Twenty percent of your tab at each of these generous establishments will benefit the students at Shenandoah elementary school. We can’t wait to see you!

Our backyard hens She-Ra, Catra, and Glimmer have been SO busy that we’re on fresh egg overload. For this weekend’s specials, you can upgrade the egg on your bagel sandwich or breakfast plate to one from our girls for just an extra dollar an egg! And just so you know, the eggs we regularly use for our sandwiches and platters are pretty special, too, from local Buttonwood Farm.

We’ve also launched a couple of new seasonal lattes. Try the Sunrise Latte with a delightful orange/vanilla blend or the Peanut Butter Latte!

Keely’s been with us since March 2022, so we’re happily celebrating both an anniversary and a birthday! Keely came to us with front of house, back of house, and espresso experience, and has proven to be an invaluable member of our team. Their actual birthday only shows up on the calendar every four years, but pop in any day this week to wish Keely the best!

For those of you living in the new 7th Ward (see map), the Tower Grove East Neighborhood Association is hosting a candidate forum on Tuesday, February 28, at 7pm at Stray Dog Theatre, 2336 Tennessee Avenue. It’s a great chance to learn about the candidates and become an informed voter!
