Project MEGSSS
Project MEGSSS is a research-based mathematics program developed to build math skills in students, grades 4-8. Louis-based think tank, in the late 1970s.
Based on the Elements of Mathematics program, MEGSSS has programs taught afterschool in the classroom and online. Our curriculum is based on The Elements of Mathematics, a program developed by CEMREL, a St. Project MEGSSS bridges the gap between elementary and high school mathematics for mathematically talented middle school students.
Yesterday, I was chatting w/ multiple parents who felt higher math was useless and didn’t want their kids wasting time on it. Have you noticed this mentality lately??
From one of our students today:
“As I prepare to move into my dorm this weekend, I wanted to again thank Project MEGSSS for all they’ve done. The math and soft skills I practiced are an integral part of why I’m at this college and able to start on this particular aerospace/aeronautics pathway. I’ll never forget how much the teachers invested in me and encouraged me to grow. I wish every student had that chance. Imagine how different the world would be!”

It’s !
Two great facts:
1. It’s not a math test!
2. It’s free!

An Anthropic mathematician logged onto X last week and posted something that stopped the math world cold. Seven casual words: "Hello there the Jacobian conjecture is false thanx."
The Jacobian conjecture is a problem that has resisted mathematicians since 1884. Fields Medalists have tried. Famed 20th-century mathematicians published claimed proofs that later fell apart. It made Stephen Smale's list of the most important unsolved problems for the 21st century.
The counterexample Levent Alpöge posted was short enough to fit in a single social media post. Other mathematicians verified it within hours.
What makes this result different from other recent AI-assisted breakthroughs is not the complexity of the answer. The counterexample itself is remarkably simple. The difficulty was in finding it, navigating an enormous search space of possible mathematical objects to locate one with exactly the right properties.
That distinction matters more than it might seem. And what it suggests about where AI's mathematical capabilities are actually headed is the part the field is now debating.

There has never been a better time to be a math nerd.
New college graduates and Ph.D.s are now securing million-dollar pay deals from elite trading firms seeking to secure the best and brightest amid fierce competition from artificial-intelligence companies.
So-called quant firms, which use sophisticated mathematical models to come up with trades, have for years wooed top young talent with lucrative compensation that big banks struggle to match. Now, the AI boom is pushing those numbers even higher.
Just a few years ago, early-career packages pushing seven figures were anomalies, said Matt Stabile, founder of New York-based recruitment firm Stabile Search. “But a million dollars is something people don’t even bat an eye at anymore.”
