While there is so much research work that needs to be done investigating how to approach testosterone management in women, one thing that we know for sure is that testosterone can and should be prescribed safely in select female patients with low libido. **That has been well described in the Global Consensus Position Statement on the Use of Testosterone Therapy for Women from 2019.**
However, unfortunately, due to a plethora of misconceptions and gaps in research, women remain without any FDA-approved testosterone therapies, while more than 30 approved testosterone therapies are available for men.
We have known for a long time that women also create and rely on testosterone for bone muscle and brain health, however, the verdict is still out on how to appropriately manage patients with exogenous testosterone safely.
The [International Menopause Society](https://www.imsociety.org/) and other global health organizations state that there is **insufficient evidence** to recommend testosterone therapy specifically for the purpose of improving bone density, muscle strength, or body composition in women at this time. If you have chronic groin pain/scrotal pain that won’t go away, the issue might be your hip, not an infection (orchitis).

Highly recommend spending a birthday with some of the best minds in s*xual medicine . I feel so inspired.
ISSWSH is the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health and this year their conference was in Dallas, Texas.
Here’s small sample of what I learned:
✨Botox has a role in treating pelvic pain in endometriosis
✨Pornography is often a scapegoat for a greater concern about s*xual behavior and dysfunction with other underlying sources ( )
✨ The cervix has nerve endings and plays a role in s*xual function. LEEP procedures can affect that function.
✨The cl****al exam is important and often forgotten. Cl****al adhesions can cause pain and s*xual dysfunction. There are treatment options. Cl****al phimosis should be its own diagnosis. ( )
✨There are a variety of spinal cord lesions (some of which do not appear on imaging) that trigger Persistent Ge***al Arousal Disorder /Genito-Pelvic Dysesthesia (PGAD/GPD).
✨Tarlov cysts are associated with PGAD/GPD. There are opportunities for surgical intervention in some patients. ( )
✨Social media is an excellent vehicle for patient education on common s*xual medicine concerns, and that my voice matters (thanks )

There are lots of misconceptions about what it means to finish “too soon.”💦
Most sources cite that the average time to ej*******on is somewhere around 5-7 minutes of consistent stimulation.
Not surprisingly, many people with a p***s want to have endurance to “last longer,” which is why practices like edging are utilized.
Not all s*x has to last for hours, and some of the best s*x only lasts seconds.
My advice? Focus less on the length of s*x and more on the quality of arousal and pleasure for both partners.
And don’t forget to see your friendly urologist if you think something is wrong!

What things do you wish you had been taught in med school?🧐
Don’t get me wrong, we learn A TON in medical school. Unfortunately we don’t learn a lot about s*xual physiology.
But that’s all the more reason why I want to develop comprehensive s*xual medicine education content for medical students and providers across all specialties ⭐️.
