Exterior paint color consultations are so satisfying. I love to pair colors that coordinate seamlessly with the existing fixtures on a house. On this lovely home in I drew color inspiration from the stone corner trim, warm brick, and brown roof. We used sherwinwilliams Brainstorm Bronze - shingle siding, Sealskin - garage door, and Bitter Chocolate - front door. This house is resale ready!
I partnered on this project with malonepainting!

sherwinwilliams Loggia SW7506 is one of my favorite beiges. The warmth pairs perfectly with wood tones while the gray undertone keep it from feeling too yellow or brown. The light/medium value provides a great contrast with white trim and feels cozy without becoming too dark or closing in the space.
I partnered with papajoepaintco to repaint the full interior of this home in Town and Country.

I had the opportunity to work on this lovely shingle sided home in Webster Groves with Kennedy Painting LLC. Pairing multiple body colors on exteriors is always a fun challenge - I often gravitate towards using lighter values on the higher peaks to help guide the eye upwards and to keep the house from feeling top-heavy.

Iām excited to share that after 4 years of building my business, Ventura Color Consulting has branding! š This business is a piece of me and as an artist, it was important for me to reflect that by creating my own logo and brand colors. Similarly to how I approach consulting, I took inspiration from the things I love most. Creating art, dancing to live music and appreciating the beauty in nature are what feed my soul.
Several years ago, I bought a crystal prism from another artist after connecting over our love for the bands Ween and Phish. While looking at all of the refracting colors, I noticed a āhouse shapeā in the prism and knew I wanted to make this my logo. After many iterations, Iāve finally created something that reflects the vision I had. Iām excited to take this next step in growing my business with recognizable branding that reflects who I am.

Over the last 9 years as a paint color consultant, Iāve noticed some common issues people have with selecting interior colors:
1) Colors look more vibrant than anticipated.
- We love the hue on a small color swatch but it quickly becomes overwhelming once itās painted on all four walls. Paint colors tend to be perceived as more colorful once we see them on a much larger scale. Selecting the right color is all about noticing the subtle nuances of color. I always start with the more neutral options and work my way towards colors that are more bold and saturated. Once you start viewing vibrant colors, itās difficult to see how colorful more neutral options really are. Another reason colors look more colorful once painted is because lighting really does makes the walls more colorful. When all four walls are painted, light bounces off the walls and reflects that color back onto the other walls, making the color feel more saturated. The walls actually appear more colorful than the swatch because of reflected light.
2) Colors look darker than anticipated.
We select a color we love, but we havenāt considered the lighting conditions that we see on our walls. Sometimes this is due to selecting a color in the store under fluorescent lighting. Other times it is due to the direction we view the swatch at home. To get the most accurate representation of a color it is important to view the sample vertically against the walls where it will be painted. When we view a sample horizontally, it catches much more light than the vertical surface of the walls.
Oversized 8x11 in. paper swatches are my favorite tool for selecting paint colors. During color consultations I bring extra large swatches of over 1,000 different sherwinwilliams colors to give my clients a better understanding of how colors may be perceived.

Warm grays on exteriors feel both modern and timeless. When working on exteriors, I consider how the new paint colors connect with the existing fixtures, the best neutrals blend seamlessly with all other architectural details. sherwinwilliams Keystone Gray and Anew Gray appear as if they have always been part of this homes color palette.

Warm whites are inviting, cozy, and make the perfect backdrop for eclectic art collections. Selecting the ārightā white can be a daunting process for my clients. The key is to consider to the subtle undertones and how they connect with the fixtures and artwork in the space. Slight hues become exaggerated when painted on a larger scale, itās important to pay attention to the nuances between different shades of white. During a consultation I bring XL 8x11 in. paper samples of approximately 1,000 different sherwinwilliams paint colors, including all whites, to help give my clients a better representation of how colors will look in their space. These XL paper samples help us identify the subtle undertones that may be lost on small paint chips from the store.

⨠Dancing ⨠into 2026! Last year was incredible, both personally and for my business. I started the year marrying my best friend and biggest supporter. Weāve both been alcohol free for over a year now (highly recommend, itās the best decision Iāve made for my life other than marrying Matt.) We literally danced our way into the new year on our first anniversary and it couldnāt have been more magical. (Thanks umphreysmcgee š 3x!!!)
I worked on 125 homes in 2025 with no marketing or additional networking, all from existing network referrals and word of mouth. When I started my business 4 years ago, I wouldnāt have believed how quickly this would become a success. This year I get to take what Iāve been working so hard to build and run with it. I know exactly how I envision growing this and what has to happen to take it there. So much work goes on in the background of color consulting and so far itās all come 100% from me. My ideas, my time, my energy. Iāve become more organized than I ever believed I could be. The process of running a business has been transformative and I am so grateful to get to use my time helping others feel better in their homes. Colors are powerful. Iām proud of what Iāve created and motivated to continue expanding this work.
I canāt wait to see what success come in 2026!

āHappy, Sunny, Energy.ā My clients didnāt know exactly what colors they wanted to use in their new home but they knew how they wanted to feel living there. We created an inviting atmosphere using warm, organic paint colors that coordinate with the beautiful wood floors and trim.
A to Z Painting was a fantastic partner on this project!

Iām passionate about the work that I do because of the positive impact I make on my clients daily lives. The right colors donāt just look good, they make you feel good. It is so rewarding receiving reviews like this:
āMaggie was so helpful in my decision for color on the exterior of our home. I knew that I wanted green, lighter on top and darker on bottom. She took the time, listened to what I was thinking, talked me out of a big mistake and brought me into a color scheme that I love. People have actually stopped in front and complimented me color. WOW what a difference the consultation made. Thanks Maggie, so sweet and knowledgeable. What a gift.ā āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø
