When a musician truly loves performing something- they know it and learn it, and memorize it almost instantly, without any sheet music necessary.

It shouldn’t anybody’s job to spend their lives spoonfeeding music (writing/arranging) to people who don’t want to internalze the music to play it. Those musicians should do something else with their skills.

When a musician truly loves a music, they can perform it at any time- pitch reference or not- sheet music or not, other instruments with them or not.

Having lots of chops doesn’t excuse poor taste.

Having greast taste but no chops is not cool either.

Chops and taste are not mutually exclusive!
