Unpopular opinion about pool: Backers or stakeholders are bad for the sport. That is not to be misinterpreted as gambling is bad for the sport because that isn’t at all true.

I want talk about something that I have been thinking about for a long time. Pool to me holds a very special place and one of the things that I’ve been an advocate of in the sport is the concept of pool not being a team sport or a tournament based sport but instead a 1v1 Initiative based sport similar to boxi or mma. Using the promotional formats laid out by boxing and mma especially the UFC makes the sport a much more competitive and exciting experience for not only the players but also the fans. Having narrative and story telling behind the players is crucial. I believe strongly that pool needs a completely new approach in order to gain casual engagement and fan investment. We have all the pieces but we just need someone to take charge in the attempt to make 1 on 1 events spectacular.

With the World Cup of Pool just around the corner, it’s that time of year when I run another bracket pot.
As soon as the bracket is released I will be delivering them to multiple locations plus doing them via messenger. The brackets will be $20 plus an additional opportunity to pick the overall winner and the final score for $10. Rules and brackets will be out soon so don’t miss out.
