One of the biggest misconceptions about hiring an interior designer is that everything has to be replaced. In reality, some of the most timeless spaces are built around pieces that already have character and history.

In this dining room, we kept the client’s existing dining table and buffet—two quality pieces that still had so much to offer. Rather than replacing them, we refreshed the space by introducing new chairs, a rug, drapery, artwork, lighting, accessories, and styling to give the room a fresh, cohesive feel.

Sunroom season for the past few days in St. Louis ☀️🌿

There’s something about a light-filled sunroom that instantly feels like a retreat. We kept this space fresh, relaxed, and inviting with soft neutrals, natural textures, and layers of blue and aqua that echo the outdoors.

A misconception I often hear is that small rooms need to be painted a light color in order to look larger. In fact, It’s the opposite! By carrying the same rich charcoal color across the walls, built-ins, fireplace, and trim, the architecture becomes the focal point while the room feels larger, more cohesive, and very sophisticated.

Once we selected the gorgeous Schumacher floral fabric, the rest of the design fell into place. Tans, blue and green on repeat make for a cohesive color palette that feels like a breath of fresh air.

We brought the pink and blue color palette into the dining room with success. I think it strikes the perfect balance between polished and inviting—velvet blue chairs add depth and richness, while the warm wood floors and soft neutral walls keep everything feeling airy.

We designed the whole room based on the chinoiserie lamp, honing in on blue and pink. The layering of these colors helps create a calm, welcoming feel while the warm wood grounds the space and add just the right amount of contrast.
