We carry DVDs covering 4 types of chair seat weaving including hand woven, pre-woven, rush and splin

To get started on the seat, I had to figure the difference of the length of the back rail and front rail (measuring horizontally on just the rails). I then divided that difference in half and marked a line on the front rail of the halved measurent. This allowed me to weave the center of the seat first and then fill the sides in as the last step.

Example...
Front rail length: 14"
Back rail length: 12"
Difference: 2"
Divided by 2: 1"
Marked 1" on each end of the front rail.

Took a really damp rag with just a tad of all-purpose cleaner mixed in and wiped down the whole chair to remove a century of crud.

Kept a panel so pattern can be followed. Looks like over 3, under 3 Herringbone pattern.

Look at the accumulated dust inside the seat and back. There were even old dust bunnies inside. Very, very dusty and dirty. All part of the process.

Guess what finally was achieved? Finally removed gold seat and back from the child's rocker. It was pretty brittle. Used scissors to cut through front panel then pushed back panel out.

We got this Victorian child's rocker at an estate sale for $17.00. Will keep you posted as we advance on this project.

Look what my grandson and his mom saw at the dentist office yesterday. Children's chairs and a table/stool woven with what looks like 1/2" Flat Reed. Very cute set.

Hand caned chairs have holes drilled in wood and cane material is woven into seat using these holes. Then the holes are covered with a wider piece of cane material.
