Watch out, Springville! This Friday, escape the heat and step into the cool comfort of the Rivoli Theater on June 26th, for a sci-fi doubleheader featuring two of the most influential robotic forces in movie history!

7:00 PM MST – The Terminator (1984)
See the film that launched an entire cinematic empire the way it was meant to be seen. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as the terrifyingly unstoppable cybernetic killer hunting down Sarah Connor in a race against time. It’s 80s tech-noir at its absolute finest!

9:00 PM MST – The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
Stay for a true cinematic masterpiece of the golden age. This isn’t a cheesy B-movie—it's a gripping, atmospheric thriller about peace, humanity's future, and an unforgettably massive silver robot that can disintegrate weapons with a single glance.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Terminator: Arnold Schwarzenegger famously tried to convince James Cameron to let him say "I will be back" instead, arguing that a cyborg wouldn't use contractions. Cameron refused, telling Arnold to just trust him, and a legendary movie catchphrase was born!

The Day the Earth Stood Still: The giant robot Gort was actually played by Lock Martin, the 7-foot-7-inch doorman from the nearby Grauman's Chinese Theatre! Because the heavy foam rubber suit was so difficult to move in, they had to use a lightweight dummy for shots where he carried actors.

RIVOLI TRIVIA:
The Matrix:
The iconic green code that flows down the screens isn't complex military encryption; the production designer actually scanned symbols straight out of his wife's Japanese cookbooks! It's mostly sushi recipes.

Kronos:
The film's unique, minimalist design of the giant robot was heavily praised by sci-fi fans for being far ahead of its time, steering away from the classic "clunky metal man" trope to create something genuinely imposing.
.If you woke up tomorrow and found out our world was just a computer simulation, what is the first glitch in the system you would try to exploit? Let us know in the comments!

Are you ready for the ultimate summer thrill? This Friday, June 12th, the Rivoli is turning up the tension with two of the greatest creature features ever made. We’re moving from the terrifying open waters of Amity Island straight into a desert town under siege by a giant, radioactive arachnid!

7:00 PM MST – Jaws (1975)
"You're gonna need a bigger boat." Experience Steven Spielberg’s ultimate summer blockbuster on the big screen! When a massive great white shark terrorizes a New England beach community, a police chief, a marine biologist, and a grizzled fisherman must hunt it down.

9:00 PM MST – Tarantula (1955)
Stay for a silver-screen sci-fi masterpiece! After a nutrient experiment goes horribly wrong in an isolated desert lab, a giant tarantula escapes and grows to monolithic proportions, terrorizing the Arizona countryside. Boasting incredible mid-century practical effects and genuine suspense, this is 50s creature sci-fi at its absolute peak!

RIVOLI TRIVIA:

Jaws: The mechanical shark (named "Bruce" by the crew) notoriously malfunctioned constantly in the saltwater. This forced Spielberg to shoot around it, leading to the POV shots and music cues that made the movie way more suspenseful!

Tarantula: Look closely at the jet squadron captain sent to blast the giant spider at the end of the movie, that’s a young, uncredited Clint Eastwood under the flight mask!

If you had to choose your battleground, would you rather take your chances against a massive great white shark while stuck on a sinking boat, or a 100-foot-tall tarantula in the open desert? Tell us your survival strategy!

Looking for the perfect way to kick off your weekend? Escape the heat and join us for a double feature packed with identity swaps, heartwarming family antics, and Hollywood's most famous invisible best friend!

7:00 PM MST – The Parent Trap (1998)
Hallie and Annie are identical twins separated at birth who accidentally reunite at summer camp and hatch a brilliant plan to switch places and get their parents back together. Come enjoy Lindsay Lohan’s iconic breakout role on the big screen!

9:00 PM MST – Harvey (1950)
Stay for a true classic comedy masterpiece! James Stewart stars as the eccentric, endlessly kind Elwood P. Dowd, whose best friend happens to be an invisible, six-foot-three-and-a-half-inch tall rabbit named Harvey. It’s a beautifully funny, touching story about how a little kindness and imagination can change the world.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Parent Trap: To make the twin scenes look seamless, a young Lindsay Lohan wore a tiny earpiece that played back the pre-recorded lines of the other twin so she could nail the comedic timing perfectly!

Harvey: Jimmy Stewart loved this film so much that he insisted the crew frame shots wider than usual to leave actual physical space on screen for Harvey the rabbit to "stand" next to him!

See you! 🍿✨
