Fun facts about Farm Fresh Eggs & Chickens

Eggs are laid with a protective layer called β€œbloom” that seals the pores on the egg to keep bacteria from entering.

Unwashed eggs can stay on the counter for several weeks.

Washed eggs must be refrigerated and last up to two months.

Store your eggs upside down to help keep them fresh (pointy side down).

Chickens are omnivores. They love bugs, frogs, snakes, mice and other small creatures along with all kinds of vegetation.

Farm eggs have 1/3 less cholesterol,1/4 less saturated fat, 2/3 more vitamin A, Two times more omega-3 fatty acids and three times more vitamin E than store bought eggs.

The yolks contain vitamin D.

An egg shell can have as many as 17,000 pores on its surface.

A chicken egg is 74% water.

They bathe by rolling around in dirt.

The average chicken lays 250-300 eggs per year.

The color of the egg shell is determined by the chicken breed and doesn’t affect the nutritional value.

Most chickens live for 3-7 years but some have been recorded to live 12 years.

If you drop an egg on the floor sprinkle salt over the yolk and sweep up.

No one knows why the chicken crossed the road πŸ˜‰

Looking to add a beautiful rainbow egg assortment to your flock? 🐣 I have chicks available from a Grand Champion flock, featured on NBC Texas Today, that is a mix of Olive Eggers, Ameraucana/EE, Cuckoo Marans, RIR, Barred Rock, Welsummer, BCM, Barnevelder, Buff Orpington etc.

I do NOT sell individual breeds of chicks. These are a straight run mix, meant to get uniquely colored rainbow eggs. Creating olive eggers, different shades of blues, greens, pinks, and speckeled layers. Some chicks will be pure breeds some will be mixed.
