Small but mighty!
The American Kestrel is the smallest member of the falcon family and can be seen across both North and South America.
Kestrels' black stripes below their eyes are often referred to as "sideburns." These markings assist the birds by reducing sun glare in their eyes and served as the inspiration for black eye makeup in sports.
