Scam Alert - Long Read but please read it.
This is NOT copied or pasted. This was my actual experience around 11am yesterday. NOW LISTEN… I consider myself fairly well versed in these things as well as confident in my ability to know if I’m being scammed. However, this particular scam almost ‘got me’ and had me fearful for about 10 minutes.

I also found out later that it nearly got another good friend of mine!!! I say that to say this…BEWARE!!! They use fear and I don’t usually fall for that but…here is what happened.

I received a phone call from a No Caller ID number. I answered the call. The call was very “broken up” and I dropped it 4X over the course of time and he kept calling back. Each time he was a bit more indignant, angry and persistent.

Caller stated that his name was Lt. Benny Solis - Badge #43646 calling from the Montgomery County Courthouse.

He asked me why I did not show up for jury duty yesterday. I told him that I had never been summoned for jury duty. He said that there was a summons for jury duty sent out to me on such and such date and sent to my exact address (which he provided). He then asked me if I ever had issues with not receiving mail. I told him that I HAVE had issues where I have not received cards or something like that, but I always seem to get my bills so I don’t know why I would not have received this jury summons.

He told me that since I failed to appear for jury duty, the Honorable Judge Christopher Buckley has issued me two citations. He went on further to say that those citations need to be taken care of immediately or else there would be a warrant out from my arrest.

He sounded very legal. He sounded very matter for fact and seemed like he was legitimate. He told me that I had to stay on the recorded line with him and he continued to reiterate that because of these citations, I was a threat to the public. (I mean, there was that time in high school but…Jesus got a hold of my heart and I’m no longer a threat). Anyhoo…

He told me again that Honorable Judge Christopher Buckley has issued the citations and the numbers were: CT – 2026–834-42 and CT - 2026 - 884 - 28

Both citations were in the amount of $750 each and that I needed to pay those citations and get “vouchers” to present to him at the courthouse. He told me that once I got to the courthouse, I would be able to present him with vouchers and then fill out an affidavit to get the citations expunged from my record and that I would have the money reimbursed. That was when things started to sound a little “off.”

I’ll be very honest with you… He had me for a while. And here’s why…It is quite possible that a summons was sent and
I never received it. I would never know that the Montgomery County Sheriff’s department does not have lieutenants in their office. They have deputies but they do not have lieutenants. I don’t know all the names of the judges in Montgomery County so there could have been an Honorable Judge Christopher Buckley. There were just lots of things that I just did not know which could have made me an easy target. But if I’m an easy target, so are you!!!!

When a possible Sheriff Department ‘Lieutenant’ is calling you and telling you that there could be a warrant for your arrest…it is a little unnerving.

Finally, he said that his finance department was going to send me a document on how to take care of and pay for the voucher. That’s when the red flags started going off again. He also told me that I had to stay on the line with him and if I did not that there would be a warrant for my arrest immediately.

When I got the “document“ from him, it came from a 912 area code that told me how to pay for the voucher and then he said I was to bring the voucher to the Montgomery County courthouse and meet him there. He gave me an address to go pay for the voucher in Litchfield and told me that I could only pay with cash or debit. Later, when I googled the address, I realized that the address was the Litchfield laundromat. 🙄🙄

At that point, I told him that I was going to take my chances and hang up on him and call to confirm with a judge friend of mine.

I did not hear back from him after that point. I called a dear friend of mine who is a judge and she said… It is a total scam. But she also said to call the Montgomery County jury department to make sure that you were not actually called for jury duty.

I called and was told that I was not called for jury duty. I have never been called for jury duty. Then the clerk who I spoke to said that I need to let the sheriff’s department know that this scam is using the name of the Montgomery County Sheriff Office.

When I called the sheriff department, they were very kind and said that it was definitely a scam, but a very good scam. The deputy took down all of the information and said that they would be sending out another notice about this type of scam to let people know.

So sweet friends…be vigilant and beware!!! People are tryna getcha!!!!

It’s been said that the Romans didn’t invent crucifixion, but they did perfect it. All the suffering Jesus endured leading up to the crucifixion – the beating, the scourging, and the crown of thorns – as horrible as it was, that suffering was soon to be eclipsed by the final instrument of death: the cross.

And why a cross? Why should the perfect, spotless Lamb of God, who knew no sin, no guile, no evil at all, suffer what was perhaps the cruelest form of ex*****on created by humans? What heinous crime would require such a gruesome penalty?

Maybe this was not a punishment meant for a perceived rabble rouser, a threat to those in power, a suspected heretic, or even an enemy of the empire. Jesus took on the sins of humanity at Golgotha. The. Sins. Of. All. Humanity. From the smallest to the unimaginable. Maybe the horror of this ex*****on didn’t fit the perfect, truly good, Man to whom it was applied. But it did fit the scale and the enormity of the offense and sin – and the curse that comes with it – that Jesus bore on behalf of the entire world.

“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.’”

We will never know the horror of a crucifixion. Never. But Jesus did. And the writer of Hebrew says, “For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame…”

He did it for us. He did it to pay our penalty that we owed for our sins. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
