Wednesday evening, our 2026 Community Leadership Visit delegation gathered at the Spencer Fane Gary Powell Conference Center to connect with fellow attendees and prepare for next week’s visit.

Over three days in Indianapolis, we’ll explore three themes that are also shaping important conversations here at home: regional alignment, strategic investment and quality of place.

We’ll hear from leaders across the Indianapolis region about how they work together around shared priorities, make investments that support continued growth and create a place where people want to live, work, visit and invest — all with an eye toward what we can learn and bring back to the Springfield region.

Today is National Manufacturing Day, now in its 15th year, and the kickoff to Manufacturing Month. All October, we're celebrating the people and companies who build, assemble, and ship from our region.

Manufacturing is the fifth-largest employer in the country, and it's a powerhouse close to home: nearly 19,000 people across the Springfield metro work in manufacturing, at more than 500 establishments, contributing $2.7 billion to our economy.

But behind every figure is a person making it happen. To every manufacturer and maker in our region: thank you.
