Are the school supply lists posted somewhere?
Who do we contact for missing chocolate on our orders?
Keep up the great job educators and staff!
If you or your student are interested in scouting, please join us Tuesday September 1st at McBride Park (west of the school) at 6:30 pm. Kindergardeners through 4th graders are invited. We look foward to seeing you. Thank you!
Parents, do you recognize any of these numbers? Your child(ren) somehow has my phone number, and I assume they think it belongs to my daughter. I’ve already identified one number that was in the group (not listed here) and have spoken to the child’s mother. On multiple occasions, I’ve received texts and repeated FaceTime requests at all hours of the day, even as late as midnight. I continually decline and have even told the group that I’m a mom (not one of their friends) and to take me off their list. Today, I tried that again and am now getting rude comments back from one child. If you recognize these numbers, you need to check your child’s phone activity and consider monitoring them a little more closely in the future.
What are the school hours and how early are you able to drop of your kids in the morning?
I am looking a head and trying to plan and I was curious if McBride offers after school programs such as SPARC, YMCA, or Boys and Girls Club?
My kiddos will be in Kindergarten this year and I am curious where I might find the supply list so that I can start planning?
Does everyone in the McBride area know about the Rezoning request for the NE corner of Golden and Weaver? I have the papers and meeting info on my front porch if anyone wants to run by and grab one (under the doormat) OR the first meeting is at the house out in front of Harrison Elementary (the Nutrition Services building) They are meeting outside and distancing. They will also have petitions in opposition and a Notary to verify signatures.
FATHER DAUGHTER PICTURES ARE IN...

You can pick up Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 9-1 at McBride
OR
Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-7 at McBride

If you are unable to pick up during the above listed times send me a message and we will work something out!! Thank you for your patience and a sorry for the delay!!
Join Arden Gambill and I as we wish Matt Ellis, Todd Gao, Harrison Shin, and Sara Huggins good luck today in the STATE Math Competition!
Since other parents might be curious too...
I know it's probably the least of anyone's concerns, but just wondered...
Any info on if Spring pictures are still going to be distributed at some point?
Or the candy fundraiser?

Fourth graders at lunch know all the rules:-)

08/25/2021

Lunch with third grade and my table just happens to be the youngest in their families. Here is what they think about being the youngest:
-When their brothers and sisters move out, they will get their parents all to themselves.
- They learn from their siblings mistakes when they watch them get in trouble.
- They often get what they want when their siblings are distracted on their phones or devices.
We had some great lunch talks!

McBride’s first day has been so much fun.
It’s been a very warm day, but also so wonderful as our classes and hallways are full of the sweetest kiddos in the world!

ATTENTION parents. PLEASE find these in your child’s blue folder. Fill them out with a thick black marker and make sure you have them hanging from your rear view mirror for carline. ALL persons picking up children will need one of these. This assists staff with keeping carline moving quickly and safely. If you did not acquire your child’s folder yet, we will have volunteers completing these for you in carline the first couple days of school. However, these should be few and far between. Your assistance and cooperation is greatly appreciated!!! 🐾

[07/30/21]   Throughout the summer, vaccination rates in the community and region have remained low and Springfield has experienced an alarming surge in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths. Most recently, updated masking guidance has been issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics, encouraging a return to in-person learning five days a week with masking required for all students enrolled in grades pre-K through 12. This guidance is supported by the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, CoxHealth and Mercy.

As a result, in order to ensure students are able to learn in-person, five days a week, Springfield Public Schools will require students and staff to wear masks, effective immediately. This decision supports the goal of a safe start to the school year Aug. 23.

“We learned many important lessons about COVID-19 last year. Masking is effective in limiting the spread of the virus at school and reducing the number of cases required to quarantine,” explained Dr. Grenita Lathan, superintendent of SPS. “Keeping more students in school supports their learning and social development while allowing parents to work without frequent disruptions caused when students must quarantine at home following exposure. Our goal is to remove the masking requirement, in collaboration with public health experts, as soon as local data indicates it is appropriate. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on our community and encourage all those over the age of 12 to be vaccinated now. Only by increasing vaccination rates can we hope to quickly return to the sense of normalcy that we all agree is needed.”

Dear SPS Families,

Hammons Field will be the host of the “Knock COVID Out of the Park” Vaccination Drives, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, during the Tuesday, August 3, and Thursday, August 5, games. This is a partnership between Springfield Public Schools, Springfield Cardinals, Springfield-Greene County Health Department, Mercy and Foundation for Springfield Public Schools.

The events are available for area students, ages 12 and up, and each student vaccinated at these drives will receive two free tickets to that night’s game, courtesy of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. All students receiving the vaccine must have a parent or legal guardian with them.

Any fan who would like more information about the COVID-19 vaccines will be able to learn more during the events from representatives with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Mercy and Springfield Greene-County Health Department.

Check-in for the vaccinations will be located on the Main Plaza, right outside of Gate 3 at Hammons Field, with vaccines available for two hours starting when gates open each night. In addition to the two free tickets, eligible students who get the vaccine during these drives will receive a free backpack or duffel bag while supplies last, courtesy of Foundation for Springfield Public Schools.

Tuesday, August 3, Vaccine Drive details:
• Tuesday’s vaccine drive will go from 5:35 p.m. – 7:35 p.m.
• This game is also a Great Southern Bank $1 Dog Day, with hot dogs available all night for just a buck.
• First Pitch is 6:35 p.m. vs. the Tulsa Drillers.

Thursday, August 5, Vaccine Drive details:
• Thursday’s vaccine drive will go from 6:05 p.m. – 8:05 p.m.
• This game is also a Klement’s $1 Bratwurst Night, with Klement’s brats available all night for just a buck.
• First Pitch is 7:05 p.m. vs. the Tulsa Drillers.

“We appreciate these outstanding community partners for making this opportunity available for our students,” said Dr. Grenita Lathan, superintendent of SPS. “The vaccines are safe and they work remarkably well by preventing serious illness and hospitalization. We encourage everyone over the age of 12 to be vaccinated now. This will help us turn the page and reclaim a sense of normalcy, which is what we all want.”

“As we look ahead, vaccinations are an important tool in helping students who participate in sports or other extracurricular activities have an uninterrupted experience,” said Josh Scott, director of athletics for SPS. “If vaccinated and asymptomatic, students will not have to quarantine if a fellow team member tests positive. If enough of our students are vaccinated, that can make the difference between a team remaining viable or being sidelined by COVID-19.”

Nutrition Services / Free and Reduced Meals 07/29/2021

Nutrition Services / Free and Reduced Meals

SPS Families,

The USDA released a series of nationwide waivers that allow flexibility to school meal programs for the 2021-2022 school year. The SPS Nutrition Services Department has opted to participate in these waivers provided by the USDA which means student breakfast and lunch meals will continue to be offered free of charge during the 2021-2022 school year.

While all students will receive free meals at school, it is important that families complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application. This is the first step to determine if they are eligible for other services or benefits such as reduced priced transportation, wrap-around child care services, and affordable internet service. USDA requires new applications to be filled out each school year, as applications from the prior year expire. By completing the application, you will not only ensure that your families receive eligible benefits, but you will help schools access funding that supports students and teachers.

For every student that qualifies for free or reduced price meals, Springfield Public Schools receives federal and state funds that can be used for:
• Additional teachers and instructional support, especially for students struggling in math and reading.
• Support for students in the areas of attendance, behavior, and science, technology, engineering, and math instruction.
• Parent involvement activities in school.
• Professional learning for staff, which helps improve instruction and increase student achievement.

The 2021-2022 application only takes a few minutes to complete and is available online by clicking on the link below. It is accessible in multiple languages utilizing Google translate. Households that are approved for free meals through the Direct Certification process (SNAP) do not need to complete the Free and Reduced Price Meal Application. Those families will receive a letter of notification beginning the last week of July. All other households will receive an application packet, mailed to their current address on file, after August 1. Households are encouraged to complete the 2021-2022 application online or submit their paper application utilizing the postage paid envelope they receive in the mail. Only one application, online or paper application, per household is needed. All students and family members should be listed on ONE application.

Parents who need assistance with completing the application may contact the Nutrition Services Department at (417)523-1130.

Nutrition Services / Free and Reduced Meals The Free/Reduce meal online application for the 2021-2022 school year will be available soon.  Please check back after July 22.
