After two long days of bargaining this week, we’ve reached a tentative agreement with the university.
We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from our tenured colleagues, our students, and our union siblings. The fight doesn’t end here. 💪

Our bargaining team will meet with the university again this afternoon. The university can avoid a strike by coming to the table with real proposals that improve working conditions for nontenure faculty at UIS.

We’ve been in negotiations for over a year seeking job security, workload protections, and fair wages consistent with the contracts in place at the other U of I campuses.
Our union has authorized a strike which could take place as early as March 18. Please click the link and tell Chancellor Gooch that you do not want student learning disrupted because she refuses to negotiate a fair contract.

Our team met for another bargaining session with the university on Friday, March 14. We had good conversations with their team, but we’re still waiting for the university to put forward substantive proposals on job security, workload protections, and fair wages.

This week, we officially filed an Intent to Strike notice with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board. The action comes on the heels of an overwhelming vote by our members to authorize a strike, which was announced on February 26, and insufficient progress at the bargaining table since. Now that the required 10-day notice has been filed, members may go on strike as early as March 18.

This week, our members overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike. We’ve spent a year at the bargaining table without making any progress on our core issues. It’s time for the university to take us seriously.

This week, members of UIS Instructors United are voting on whether to authorize a strike. This vote allows for a strike to be called, if necessary, though we hope it won’t be needed. The university can prevent a strike by taking our concerns seriously at the bargaining table.
