You may have heard that Springfield Public Schools experienced a cyber incident that
disrupted some of our technology systems. As a result, our schools were closed for one
week while district staff worked to address the situation and ensure that our schools were ready to reopen safely.
As parents and caretakers, you may have questions or concerns about what happened. We have created a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to provide information and address some of the questions you may have. The FAQs are available on our district website and page and will be updated as additional information becomes
available.
Our school and district staff have been working diligently to address the situation, and we are grateful to welcome your children back to school.As we return, our focus is on helping our students and staff feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. We recognize that returning to school after an unexpected disruption may bring uncertainty, and our school teams are here to support students and families.

SPS to Provide Grab-n-Go Meals

Springfield Public Schools will provide grab and go meals for students on Thursday, September 10, and Friday, September 11.

Meals may be picked up between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Each meal package will include a lunch that can be reheated at home and a shelf stable breakfast that can be stored overnight and eaten the following morning.

Meals will be available at the following locations:

• Indian Orchard Elementary School
95 Milton Street

• DeBerry/Swan Elementary,
680 Union Street

• Brightwood/Lincoln Elementary Schools
255 Plainfield Street

• South End Middle School
36 Margaret Street

• Forest Park Middle School
46 Oakland Street

• Talmadge Elementary School
1395 Allen Street

Identification is required. Meals will be distributed while supplies last.

Springfield Public Schools has called a schools closure for Tuesday, September 8 following a cyber incident that has interrupted the service of some systems necessary for essential school operations, Superintendent Dr. Sonia Dinnall announced today.

The schools closure will allow district officials to continue the urgent address of the issue, she said.

“We understand that an unexpected closure creates significant challenges and we appreciate the patience, flexibility and understanding of the entire Springfield Public Schools community as we work to address this incident and restore systems,” said Dinnall

She added that the exact scope and size of the breach remains under investigation and said that all Springfield Public Schools staff have been directed to stay off of district network systems until further information is known.

Students with district-issued the laptops should do the same, she said

“The decision to close schools is not made lightly”, said Dinnall. “The most important consideration will always be the health and safety of those inside our school buildings. We simply are not willing to risk any lapse in that.”

She added that the school closure will also allow administrators to organize backup plans for non-essential technology tools, such as attendance reporting, for example, that may remain available while the matter continues to be addressed.

The closure is schools-based, but Central Office remains open though some services, including phone lines, may be impacted.

School closures also include the cancellation of after- school activities.

Las escuelas públicas de Springfield han decretado el cierre de los centros educativos para el martes 8 de septiembre tras un incidente cibernético que ha interrumpido el servicio de algunos sistemas necesarios para el funcionamiento esencial de los centros, según ha anunciado hoy la superintendente, Dr. Sonia Dinnall.

Welcome back to another wonderful school year. We will be continuing with Car Line in the mornings to help make drop-off smoother.
For the safety of Sumner Ave Families, we are asking not to park in front of the school on Sumner Ave or in any spot that is not designated as a parking spot. This will help with traffic flow and student safety.

Morning Car Line Procedures:
• ALL cars will enter at the traffic light and make their way to the intersection with the main driveway.
• Staff will take your child from the car and get them safely across the crosswalk to the main building where they will then enter the school and proceed to their classroom.
• All car line students will enter door 4 (the door on the car line side of the building)
• Cars will then exit by taking a left onto the main driveway and then a left into the new parking lot and exit at the traffic light.

Staff will be outside to assist students and help direct traffic. We ask for your cooperation as we all have the same goal in mind: Getting to school safely. Please remember that this is a school and we all work together to create a safe and respectful environment.
