Yellow Trout Lily is an early spring blooming wildflower native to Wisconsin. It grows to a height of five to ten inches and has nodding yellow flowers. Each flower is an inch wide and has six backward curving tepals (3 pedals and 3 similar sepals). The plant has mottled foliage that resembles the markings of a brook trout. The leaves are eight inches long, elliptical, pointed, and basal. It thrives in shady woodlands with moist, well-drained, and organically rich soils, typically under deciduous trees.
