The Rotary Club of Springfield North spent a great evening on February 11 helping pack Senior Boxes for delivery to senior adults. These members were joined with other volunteers from various Springfield organizations. Together, they packed 720 senior boxes containing 18,420 meals weighing 22,104 pounds. Just another great example of Rotary's work helping the community we live in.

We had a fun morning decorating a gingerbread house for the Rotary Float! You can check out our house as well as others next weekend during the Christmas Parade!

Members enjoyed a tour of the Greene County Office of Emergency Management tonight and learned so much about what they do, how they keep us safe, and the organizations they partner with to make it all happen.

The members of the Rotary Club of Springfield North donated a total of $6,000 to fund the Preschool Reading Program at Ozarks Literacy Council to help develop a love for reading early! This program strives to make kids’ enthusiasm for reading expand beyond the classroom and into the child’s home. Our club members along with other community volunteers will spend time in classrooms reading and doing activities in the Springfield Public Schools District each quarter. Each child receives a copy of the book read to take home with them and activities for each visit are written to meet the developmental needs of the class.

The Ozarks Literacy Council (OLC) promotes literacy by strategically placing books in the hands of learners who need them most and by engaging the community at local events. Making the OLC’s presence known throughout the Ozarks emphasizes the importance of literacy not just for children but for everyone. Whether it’s simply reading books to children at a community event or being an active participant in the United Way’s Day of Caring, OLC strives to make every person a reader.

We are proud to be a part of this wonderful organization and be able to contribute to its success with our members generosity.
