Keeping your dog updated on annual vaccinations is routine for many pet families. For those experiencing homelessness, it can feel like an insurmountable task alongside other challenges the family is experiencing. Often, a simple vaccination can be a line in the sand - without it, the family cannot keep their housing or they cannot get approved for an apartment.

Our Pet Family Housing Initiative was designed with these situations in mind. Recently, we were contacted by a pet family we worked with several years ago. Skyy, now 10 years old, is a cancer survivor. Unfortunately, her family is currently unhoused and living in a shelter. Skyy is her hooman's emotional support animal. In addition to a wellness exam and updating vaccinations, Skyy had a new lump.

Kane's sponsored a sedated exam, vaccinations and bloodwork for the lump. Without the updated Rabies, the pet family faced an impossible decision - give up Skyy or give up their shelter space.

We're so grateful Kane's stepped in to help this young family at a critical time. Thank you for helping us keep loved dogs with their furever families!

Celebrating 15 Years!

On this day in 2012:

My mom was looking at some pictures of me from last summer when she adopted me from Mount Vernon Animal Shelter in New York. My head looked GIGANTIC because I was so thin. The shelter almost put me down because they were running out of room and they thought there was something wrong with me. Turns out, I was just depressed. Luckily, Megan, the shelter director saw something special in me and saved me just in time for my mom to drive down and "interview" me with Tess. I don't think about those days anymore because now I have an awesome home and a great job helping other cool dogs like me through Kane's Krusade.

Blue here! One of the Kane's Krew picked me and my hooman up to bring us to visit my furrends at the Humane Society Pet Health Center. My hooman was worried about a new lump he found but we got pawsome news - just a fatty mass. (Don't make any jokes, I know I'm pleasantly plump!)

Thanks to Blue's monthly sponsors and your donations, Kane's sponsored a vet visit as well as medication renewals for this pet family. The vet said Blue's eyes are much improved and he is walking better with more pep in his step. Great news all the way around! Thank you for helping us keep loved dogs with their furever families!

We received a referral from one of our partners for a veteran who was displaced by a house fire and is currently staying in a local motel with his family and dog. Through your support and a grant from the Hampden County District Attorney's office, Kane's responded to this pet family's urgent needs. These referrals are what our Pet Family Housing Initiative was designed to address.

Bosco is a three year old terrier/shih tzu combo. After the fire he desperately needed a groom, but needed to be sedated to make this happen. Working with our furrends at the Humane Society Pet Health Center, Kane's sponsored $328.76 for an exam, sedation, rabies vaccination, nail trim and Seresto collar.

BIG Announcement Tomorrow!

Celebrating Mello

It is with heavy hearts we share that Kane's has lost another one of our OG dogs. Mello was the cutest, sweetest little guy. Every time a Kane's Krew would visit, he was so excited. It would take under 10 seconds for him to flop on his back so he could get his belly rubs.

Mello crossed the Rainbow Bridge peacefully today and with your support, Kane's sponsored the cost of euthanasia. We will miss him and are so grateful we have the privilege of knowing this pet family.

Please take a moment to read the heartwarming letter Mello's hoomans sent us over the weekend. The essence of our mission is captured so beautifully. This is why we are a hybrid organization - serving dogs and their people. When we help a pet family with their dog, it sends a powerful message to the people in the family - a message providing comfort, hope and kindness. These are three things we need more of in our world. And Kane's will continue to be out there, spreading this message with your support.

Celebrating 15 Years!

This picture is from a Kane's Kibble Drive we held in 2013. Pictured are John and his emotional support animal Trixy. That was the day we met this pet family and we added them to our growing C.A.R.E. Kit program. Sadly, John passed away and Kane's had promised him if anything happened, we would always help Trixy. When Trixy needed to be re-homed, we facilitated an adoption with an older gentleman we knew and they became joined at the hip. Trixy crossed the Rainbow Bridge, but lived a wonderful life with her second pet family for quite some time, fulfilling our promise to John.

We had a great time at our Kibble Drive Meet and Greet at Dave's Soda and Pet City on Saturday. A new family contacted us and we had them drop by to pick up some food, thanks to all our donations!

You'll be hearing more about Trixy. She is an 8 year old pit bull. Here she is with one of her companions who is a disabled vet. They saved Trixy from a horrible life as a bait dog. This family received 16 pounds of dog food on Saturday and we will be following up to get Trixy spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. These families are the face of Kane's Krusade. We're so grateful for your support which empowers us to help families care for their dogs in difficult times!

Thanks to you, Chiquita is feeling much better today!

This gorgeous girl has lived with severe chronic ear infections for a long time. We received a referral from Tufts at Tech Community Veterinary Clinic . They are an amazing low-cost clinic in Worcester and have been one of our trusted partners for many years.

We're happy to share that Kane's sponsored $250 of Chiquita's surgery - ensuring she would get the relief she desperately needed. We're so grateful we could help this pet family cross the finish line and make this procedure possible. Thank you for helping us keep loved dogs with their furever families!

Celebrating Nasia

It is with great sadness we share that one of Kane's last OG dogs will cross the rainbow bridge tomorrow morning.

Nasia is a senior pittie. She and her disabled hooman have been a part of Kane's since 2015. They were featured in our Kane's Krusade Kalendar. This pet family is extraordinary in so many ways - both are gentle and soft spoken with hearts as big as the sun and a unique bond. They were each other's everything.

Please share a few words of comfort for Nasia's hooman. She is devastated and our hearts go out to her.
