This transformation took approximately 4 hours and involved much more than simply adding highlights. The goal was to correct previous color, remove unwanted warmth and brassiness, and create a more seamless, natural-looking result.

Using mindful foil placement and controlled lightening techniques, Alyssa was able to gently lift the hair while minimizing the appearance of harsh, thick lines left from previous color services. Once the desired level of lift was achieved, she customized a toner cocktail to neutralize unwanted warmth and create a soft, dimensional finish.

To complete the look, she created a beautifully blended smudged root, allowing for a softer grow-out and a more lived-in, low-maintenance result.

This client came in with approximately 8 inches of natural growth and previous grown out highlights through out the ends. The challenge wasn’t creating blonde but creating a seamless transition between two very different canvases.

Frances approached this balayage with intention, carefully evaluating the natural growth, existing lightened hair, lift potential, and end goal before ever picking up a brush. Strategic placement and controlled lifting allowed her to blend the virgin hair into the existing blonde without harsh lines, banding, or visible separation. The final Bali Beige tone wasn’t pre-selected,, it was customized based on how the hair lifted throughout the process, allowing Frances to formulate specifically for the canvas in front of her.

Six hours behind the chair resulted in a soft dimensional blonde designed for longevity. With proper home care, she may not need a refresh for another 4–6 months, making this a beautiful low maintenance option for guests who love lived-in color and effortless grow-out.

My guest came in with a darker golden-copper base, and instead of taking her overly blonde, I focused on creating dimension through placement. By incorporating lighter ribbons throughout the hair, we were able to brighten her overall look while maintaining depth, movement, and a soft, seamless grow-out.

A brighter result isn’t always achieved by lifting every strand lighter. Often, it’s the contrast between depth and lightness that creates the illusion of a brighter, more dimensional color.
