Jacob A. Bennett ’08 will be recognized as a distinguished alumni of Ridgewood School on the evening of September 25 at our Earth to Table/Alumni Dinner when we celebrate the opening of the school year. Jacob is a graduate of Yale Law School and formerly worked at the Department of Justice where he received a Special Commendation for Outstanding Service in the Civil Division. The 2nd graders had their first official lesson in their new Beast Core math curriculum. The students practiced how to build, draw, and write a 2 digit number!

On July 25, 1988, fifteen students from Ridgewood School set out on a two-week adventure to Japan. The group included seventh- and eighth-grade students, 1987 graduates, and three other local students. The trip was sponsored by Wright State University and Eisugakken Junior High School. The students began their trip by spending four days with host families, experiencing everyday Japanese family life and making lasting memories. While staying with their hosts, they attended classes at Eisugakken Junior High School, where they learned Japanese language, calligraphy, kendo, flower arranging, and the traditional tea ceremony. The group traveled throughout Japan, visiting Osaka, Fukuyama, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Miyajima Island. Highlights included visiting Hiroshima Peace Park, spending a night on a boat, and exploring Kyoto’s temples, museums, shops, and Gion Corner. Students also noticed familiar Western influences throughout Japan, from McDonald’s and burger restaurants to American-style fashion and popular characters like Mickey Mouse. With a busy schedule from beginning to end, the students returned home tired but happy. The 1988 Japan trip was a tremendous success and an unforgettable experience for everyone who took part.

We loved welcoming our families to school for a morning filled with delicious pastries, happy conversations, and quality time together. There’s nothing better than starting the day with our Ridgewood families! Our next Pastries with Parents is this Friday for students in grades 3–8!

Our Kindergarteners had a fantastic Fire Safety Fun Friday! The entire day was filled with fire-themed learning, including an I-Spy letter hunt and a Fire Pup Rescue dice game. Students learned about fire safety, practiced what to do during a fire drill, read a fire safety story, and talked about ways to stay safe at home. Then, they put their learning into action with a practice drill and did a stellar job! In addition, they have been working hard all week building routines, getting to know one another, and developing important social-emotional skills. They've been learning through fun books like The Listening Lion and Responsible Rabbit!

Thank you to all the students, staff, and parents who helped with Student Council projects last year. We were able to fill the bulletin board up with thank yous from local charities and nursing homes. We look forward to doing it again this year and adding even more!
