What a beautiful Saturday it was in our Clark County Parks! 🌿🌼
Snyder Park and George Rogers Clark Park were filled with hundreds of visitors picking out plants and getting inspired for their home landscaping projects. A big thank you to the OSU Master Gardeners of Clark County and the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association for hosting their annual plant sales, what a wonderful way to bring the community together.
Events like these are a perfect reminder of how special our parks are. We’re so grateful to everyone who came out to support these great organizations and enjoy a day in the parks!

The Park District protects more than 164 acres of wetlands across Clark County, including the Estel Wenrick Wetlands in Medway. One of our wetlands is even home to the rare and threatened Prairie Fringed Orchid. Wetlands are amazing places. They are home to frogs, turtles, birds, beavers, insects, and many plants that love wet feet. They also help hold rainwater, clean water, and give wildlife a safe place to live. Basically, wetlands are nature’s sponge, filter, and animal hotel. When we protect wetlands, we help protect cleaner water and reduce flooding making Clark County healthier and better for all of us.

After a long wait, the materials for the Snyder Park Waiting Station have finally arrived, and BCS Roofing & Solar work on the roof restoration will begin in the next couple of weeks.
If you remember, the damage started when a massive hackberry tree came down and hit the building. What looked like roof and porch damage turned out to be more serious, with impacts to the roof structure and even the limestone foundation. Not exactly a quick fix. After a couple of years of work and additional time waiting for specialty materials, the light is at the end of the tunnel. This building has been part of Snyder Park for generations, and we are looking forward to the restoration being complete.

This past Saturday and Sunday, the First Mad River Light Artillery hosted a Muzzleloading Cannon Safety Course at George Rogers Clark Park.
Certified instructors from the FMRLA and the 4th Indiana trained 32 students from seven states on how to safely fire and maintain muzzleloading artillery. Instructors included Rusty Cottrel, Dale Hawley, Cindy Jackson, Nathan Jackson, Randy Jackson, Terri Townsend, Buddy Townsend, and Phillip Campbell.
Over two one-day sessions, participants fired more than 100 blank rounds from three cannons. The course focused on safety while giving students hands-on experience with artillery used between 1755 and 1865, including both Revolutionary War and Civil War cannon drills, as well as firing a mountain howitzer.

With a winter storm warning issued for the area, all Clark County Park District parks and National Trail parks will be closed on Sunday, January 25, to allow crews time to clear snow. If parks reopen on Monday, openings will be gradual and park dependent. Some parks, trails, and amenities may remain closed or inaccessible until staff can safely restore access, and if conditions allow. Visit https://ntprd.org/park-trail-alerts/ for updates regarding closures.
