The Lincoln Memorial Cemetery has been the burial site of many of Springfield’s African American citizens since its establishment in 1919.
Lincoln Memorial Cemetery was planned to be a dignified and beautiful resting place for black Springfieldians. Many gravestones in the cemetery mark the burial place of some of Springfield’s oldest families. There are birth dates as far back as the mid-1850’s. Lincoln Memorial Cemetery will have its dedication on Saturday November 9th, 2019 at 11am. The dedication is to show off the tremendous hard work of the committee members, family and friends in raising enough money to put a fence around the property and the beautiful monument in front of the cemetery. Please come out and show your support in this joyous occasion. See you then!
