Piddlin’. If you’re from the Midwest or the South, you probably already know exactly what it means. If not, piddlin’ is the art of puttering around without any great hurry or grand plan. It’s tinkering, straightening, organizing, and finding little things to do simply because they need doing.

That’s one of my favorite parts of restocking my booth.

Sure, I go in with a list and a purpose, but before long I’m piddlin’. Moving a crock a few inches to the left. Rearranging a stack of old books. Finding the perfect spot for a vintage pitcher. Dusting a shelf. Stepping back to admire a display, then changing it again anyway.

Some folks might call it wasting time. Antique dealers know better.

Piddlin’ is where the magic happens. It’s how booths develop personality. It’s how forgotten treasures find the right place. It’s how a collection of items becomes a space that feels welcoming and lived-in.

And honestly, after a busy week, there are worse ways to spend an afternoon than piddlin’ around a booth full of old things and good stories.

Up early…. Time for a post. One of the biggest pitfalls in the antique and vintage world is buying everything you love. The second biggest? Buying it just because it’s a bargain.

We’ve all been there. You spot a piece with a great price tag, and suddenly it feels too good to leave behind. Or you fall in love with an item and convince yourself you’ll find room for it later.

Before long, those “great deals” and “must-have treasures” start piling up. Shelves get crowded, storage fills up, and inventory sits longer than expected. That’s often where overbuying begins.

A good rule of thumb: buy with purpose. Ask yourself if the piece fits your style, your space, your customers, or your collection goals. A bargain isn’t always a good buy if it doesn’t have a place to go.

The thrill of the hunt is part of the fun, but sometimes the best treasure-hunting decision is walking away and saving room for the next great find.

There’s something timeless about a brass lyre. Inspired by the ancient symbol of music and poetry, this bookend brings a little elegance to any shelf. The warm brass patina, graceful curves, and classic harp design make it just as beautiful displayed on its own as it is holding a collection of favorite books. Vintage lyre bookends have been popular for decades, especially in mid century and traditional interiors, where they add a touch of library charm and musical history.
Perfect for a music room, office, reading nook, or anywhere that could use a little character. Some treasures don’t need to be loud to make a statement.

Emerald green glass apothecary jar. Some pieces catch your eye from across the room, and this emerald green glass apothecary jar is one of them. The rich jewel
tone color glows beautifully in natural light. Once used to store medicinal herbs, powders, and remedies, apothecary jars have become beloved decorative pieces that add color, history, and character to a home.
Perfect for displaying seashells, buttons, candy, potpourri, or simply standing alone as a statement piece. Its vibrant green glass and timeless silhouette make it an easy addition to cottage, farmhouse, traditional, or eclectic décor.

Vintage decoupage wall art featuring the beloved Currier and Ives American Choice Fruits print, carefully mounted on wood. The rich fruit imagery and warm colors bring a touch of farmhouse style and Victorianera elegance to any wall.
Pieces like this were often created to celebrate classic American artwork while giving vintage prints a second life as decorative home accents. Whether displayed in a kitchen, dining room, pantry, or gallery wall, it adds character and a sense of history that never goes out of style.
A sweet reminder of simpler times when fruit prints adorned country homes and gathering spaces across America.
