Deciphering Dreams opens a pathway to a deeper understanding of many dreamscapes including vivid childhood dreams, recurring dreams and nightmares.

Dreams are a form of language bringing awareness to our hidden desires and creative dreams. Virginia Carlson has been aware of the messages in dreams since childhood. As a mother of four, combined with her education in Psychology and Sociology she has a solid foundation for understanding creativity of the mind. As a professional in-home counselor for individuals, families, and young children, she

"I think we dream so we don't have to be apart for so long.
If we are in each other's dreams, we can be together all the time."
Winnie-the-Pooh

As we toss and turn, waiting for sleep to come to us, our brain spins the wheel to select a dream content from various subjects. The wheel might stop at love, loneliness, fear, dissolution, fantasy, violence or illusion.

Emotional aspects float into our dreams and symbols are readily present. Sometimes it is not the actual person in the dream, but rather what that person represents. Violence can be our repressed anger or fear. A dream can be a slight pause out of reality, a reprieve floating in the midst of clouds or stars.

Not only does the singular dream hold important content, but when we track daily dreams by the week or month, an unseen pattern emerges. An overall theme links the daily dreams and we gain insight to an expanding picture. Dreams impact our lives whether we recall them or not.

Dream time is just as important to me as waking time. It is through the creativity of dreams that a lesson becomes so obvious, one can no longer ignore it. It is important to maintain a sense of humor rather than be startled or offended.

Currently, I had three individual dreams that were very aligned to the reality in my life. What was interesting, to me, the characters were scrambled, interacting in the wrong time frame. What suddenly became apparent was the tendency to make the same choices. The appearance and surrounding changed, but the shallowness of character remained.

It is easy to distinguish between collective dreams and my own. If I tap into the collective, the timing is faster, the elements more harsh, and the desire to disconnect stronger. These examples of course are in tune with my waking dreams. My tendencies have grown to be more withdrawn and the extended world more harmful.

As a young child, I experienced recurring dreams. To better understand them, I learned to project them on an imaginary movie screen. Outside of the dream, I could observe using fast forward or choosing slow motion. I grew adept at recognizing symbols and learned to untangle the message behind the dream.

It wasn't until I had children of my own that I began to help others with their dreamscapes. It was amazing how much a person could learn about repressed feelings or fears. Most people were not especially aware of the depth attached to a dream nor were they prepared for the confusion between the sense of reality in the dream.

Through the discipline of meditation, one learns how to be present and allow thoughts to float across a screen. Both visualization and meditation practices allow us the ability to be somewhat 'out of body' with spiritual imagery. Therefore, today, I can be the essence of calm up on the screen, while watching my human self participate in an earthly story with birth and death. The non-physical presence becomes my reality ... connected with all behind the scenes.

Perhaps we are all being impacted by the disruption in the world today. Many of us are having dreams of chaos and sometimes violence. The fears we repress, especially unconsciously, often come out in the dream time.

I have tried to make sense out of a few distorted dreams of my own. The material was not what I would usually experience and it puzzled me.

We can look to the meanings of symbols, and examine challenges in our lives, but sometimes dreams consist of the collective energy .... we may dream it but it isn't really ours .... it is just passing through.

If, on the other hand, there is disturbing content, and there is a sense of personal message, work with it. Break it down and look for the underlying meaning.

Remember that our dreams are best remembered first thing of the morning. If we can create a shorthand and capture the main theme, we will be more apt to recall more.

A few months have passed by since I last commented on dreams. What words I shared in April, remain true of today if not more so.

I personally seem to have gone through stages beginning with collective conscious wreaking havoc at night. After these invasions ceased, patterns of relationships filled night time space.

My pattern for relationships has grown very apparent to me and the issues I have stare glaringly at me. For years I have worked on them and have reaped the rewards of correcting what leads me amuck. So I was quite surprised that these relationship dreams had once again returned.

Examining these dreams is like looking at one of those pages telling you to identify the first animal you see or what is the first word you see. I must be missing something or these particular dreams would not be presenting themselves once again. What am I not seeing?

I have walked in nature looking for resolve and sat in meditation, and neither seems to disclose underlying truths. I have journaled hoping to innocently stumble across an insight, but no such thing happened. I have finally resorted to making collages, hoping a new arrangement will settle my soul.

Deciphering Dreams has become more challenging with the current disruption in everyone's lives. Astrologically, we can learn about the collective consciousness and the alignment of planets that are contributing to our anxiety and fears. As we repress or avoid our feelings, they stream into our dreams.

Our current dreams may have shifted in pattern ... in time lapse ... surroundings ... relationships. Themes may be more confusing than ever. Simply waking up without clarity about our dream, we may feel every snip of disconnecting.

It would be wise for everyone to spend 15 minutes just prior to bed, jotting down incomplete resolution or understanding of the day. Express what loiters using just one word. Writing can be fragmented and not a perfect piece. It can be a helpful dumping ground!

"I wondered, what are dreams made of?
Are they stardust and galaxies?
Are they tendrils of existence
Reaching inwards from eternity?
Justin Wetch

There are a few dreams lingering long after the day is over. These nocturnal happenings can reflect our lives supporting our good or reflecting our doubts. Either way, the dream can repeat itself of just hang over our imaginations hoping we will somehow understand.

There are dreams that I shall never forget by choice and there are dreams I have never been able to dismiss. Not all visualizations in the night are pretty, but they all do reflect a matter of importance. To take a dream at surface level is like reading the cover of a book. As we discard this first layer of information, the true message is lost to us.

Dreams are mesmerizing when we take the time to understand them and begin to track the significant pattern developing from night to night and week to week. Dreamwork is a language to be learned which will uncover elements we hide from our lovely selves.

The holidays are upon us stirring emotions, anxiety, and fear. If we are not acknowledging these feelings, they will turn up in our dreams. Deciphering Dreams looks forward to working with you. If privacy needed, use private message. Happy Holidays!

DECIPHERING DREAMS recognizes that as we transition from one season to another, our senses also change. We crave different food, dress slightly differently, and shift our interests and routines.

DECIPHERING DREAMS has been receiving reader's dreams reflecting angry men, police presence, and even wild animals. These symbols are simply reflecting fears that we have repressed.

Police, robbers, or attackers are symbols showing us how unprotected we feel and rarely premonitions of the near future. Take energy away from the fear and invest the energy into making the self feel safe.

Most importantly, sit quietly and let thoughts surface. Listen to your inner voice. Where are you feeling out of control? When do you feel powerless? How can transition or change be made more comfortable?

DECIPHERING DREAMS welcomes input on the posted page or message me in private. Thank you!

Dreams reflect what we avoid in daily life. Our emotions take on different symbols or become a character rather than a real life person. This happens so we may be a bit more objective in hopes we will see a bit more clearly. Activities might be exaggerated simply to prove a point. A situation might be minimized so we can more easily detect the heart of the matter.

If we experience a dream that does not resonate with us, still write it down. At times, when we revisit the information, it may appear more transparent. Continue to look at it with new eyes until the intent dawns upon us.

If you record dreams regularly, you will notice a theme from day to day, not recognized individually. When we look across the span of five dreams, we then see a common denominator surface. Dreams intend to feed our body, mind and souls. Learn to decipher them!

"Dreams are not about prosaic themes, not about reading,
writing and arithmetic, but about emotion."
Rosalind Cartwright

Dreams reflect emotions earlier experienced in the day and may be amplified by stored memories of similar experiences. Nocturnal information tends to be towards the negative side as it is what we normally minimize or ignore.

Negativity comes up in dreams to give us another chance of resolve. It is a tool used to bring balance back to our emotions. When we awaken from an upsetting dream, it is important to sift through it to discover an area needing resolve.

Try to remember ... the people we dream about may just be symbols and not representing themselves in particular. If we can identify who was in our dream and then understand what they represent, the dream will begin to unravel. How do these actions relates to our own story. Take a few minutes to explore as the emotions are generally the ones suppressed.
