Tuesday Trivia: It's National Ice Cream Cone Day, and that got us reminiscing about the last place we enjoyed a cone this summer.
In 1880 the Nantasket Beach Railroad Company began regular service between Pemberton and Nantasket, stopping at stations all along the Massachusetts peninsula. In 1885 the country's first electric train began service in Hull, MA. By the turn of the century trains were carrying more than one million beachgoers from Boston to Hull each summer.

Tuesday Trivia: On September 14, 1716, the first lighthouse established in America was lit. Boston Light, located on Little Brewster Island in outer Boston Harbor was held by British forces during the Revolution. It was attacked and burnt by American forces twice. Then, as the British withdrew in 1776, they blew up the tower and completely destroyed it. The lighthouse was reconstructed in 1783 and raised to its present height of 98 feet in 1856. It remains the second oldest working lighthouse in the United States.
