What is it you truly desire? If money and time were not relevant, what would you do? Where would you go?

Sometimes we hold on to fear because it seems like the safest option, but really it only results in us getting stuck in old and damaging habits.

Growth requires us to step out of our comfort zone. It requires us to step past fear to make our dreams reality. Helping people to achieve their goals and dreams has been wonderfully fulfilling but it required me to step past the fear of not having a guaranteed steady income to do something I love and feel I am called to do. What fears are holding you back?

I will never forget the conversation: we were winding up our small group one evening with a time of prayer and one of our members shared a long list of major issues with her family and her health. Then she said with tears streaming down her face, “I know I just need to give it to God.” Another group member immediately responded, “What does that even mean? I’ve heard lots of people say that, but you are going through so much right now; what does it mean to just ‘give it to God’?”

As a result of our conversation, I decided to preach a sermon covering surrender. We reenacted our conversation concluding that surrender is a daily decision to let God work intentionally in our lives.

That daily decision is difficult. I have had to look at my life and ask myself numerous times, am I willing to make this decision? And then there are the plethora of days that I never even thought about making the decision! What would happen if I chose to trust God to work in this area of my life?

When I decided to go full-time in my business at the beginning of 2022, I thought that I could do it my way and build a successful business. The problem was that I did not know what I did not know: business strategies, sales and marketing best practices, pricing, financial management, KPIs. I knew some things, but not enough to run a business successfully.

So, I chose to surrender my business to God. It’s in God’s hands now. God will take care of it. God will provide. God will… And I waited and waited and waited. And very little happened. A call here, a conversation there, an opportunity occasionally. And I questioned what God was doing.

During that time, I realized that I needed to incorporate my faith fully into my business and live out my values and principles in an intentional way. I designed my avatar to include faith and started conversations with some good prospects. But I was frustrated because things were not happening fast enough and my cashflow was suffering as a result.

I didn’t need God to help my business, I needed God to help me, to align me, to teach me.

Surrender does not relieve me of responsibility.

I had surrendered to doing it God’s way and giving God the room to work. That’s when I realized that I had to take ownership of my business and finances. I had to be obedient and make difficult decisions about what I am doing and how I am doing it.

Finally, make a list of values that fit your company, and then pare down that list until you land at a few that really nail what your business is at its heart.
