LIHEAP applications are opening soon. Beginning October 1, eligible families can apply by visiting the DCEO website or their local agency.

Eligible applicants include adults 60 and older, individuals with a disability, families with children five years old or younger, and households that are disconnected from their utilities, have a disconnection notice or have less than 25% in their propane tank. Applications for all other eligible households will open on November 1.

Thank you to Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor for hosting her annual Returning Citizens Summit and for continuing to create spaces centered on opportunity, dignity, and second chances.

Returning home after incarceration should not mean facing a new set of barriers. Our returning citizens deserve the opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity, stability, and ease, with access to employment, housing, healthcare, education, and the resources necessary to fully reintegrate into their communities.

When people have served their time, we have a responsibility to ensure they can move forward, provide for their families, and participate fully in everyday life. Supporting successful reentry strengthens families, neighborhoods, and communities across Chicago.

Grateful to Alderwoman Taylor and all of the organizations, advocates, and service providers who showed up to make that commitment a reality.

The future of technology is being built right here in Illinois!

I was excited to tour Quantum Shore on Chicago’s South Side and see firsthand the incredible transformation underway at the former U.S. Steel South Works site.

At the heart of this development is the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, a first-of-its-kind innovation campus bringing together researchers, universities, industry leaders, and a growing quantum workforce. The project is projected to generate up to $20 billion in economic impact and create thousands of jobs while attracting investment from some of the world’s leading technology companies. 

Illinois has made a deliberate investment in becoming a global leader in quantum technology, and that leadership is taking shape right here on Chicago’s South Side. As this new industry grows, we must continue ensuring that the jobs, training opportunities, and economic development it creates reach the communities surrounding it.

Thank you to the Quantum Shore team for the tour and for sharing the exciting work ahead. Illinois is helping build the technology of tomorrow, and I am proud to see Chicago at the center of it. ⚛️🏙️

Grateful for the opportunity to visit St. Bernard Hospital, a vital safety-net hospital serving the 5th District and an essential pillar of our community.

Thank you to my colleague Senator Willie Preston for joining me, and to SEIU Healthcare and the dedicated doctors, nurses, staff, and employees who work tirelessly every day to provide quality, compassionate care to our neighbors.

Safety-net hospitals like St. Bernard are more than healthcare providers, they are trusted community institutions, employers, and lifelines for the families they serve. I’m proud to have St. Bernard in our district and grateful to everyone who works each day to keep this important institution strong.

The Kennedy Center should be a place where Americans come together to celebrate the arts, culture and our shared history. Instead, President Trump has turned a national cultural institution into a fight over adding his name. After our courts stepped in to block his misguided effort, he is now openly threatening the center’s future by saying that future funding will depend on whether he is allowed to add his name to the building. Our nation’s cultural institutions should serve the public, not personal ambitions.
