I've been getting a lot of questions about the timing of the storms. When it's going to impact where you live, etc. The fact of the matter is, it's been changing with every model update today. Here's the latest from our high-resolution model this evening. Storms look like they'll be moving very quickly across the region.

9 AM-Noon: Storms start to impact I-55 and areas west with strong winds and large hail potential

1-3 PM: Storms should reach I-57 as they make their way east

3-5 PM: We're looking at more of a concern from supercell development across the area. This would carry a bigger concern for tornadic activity

6-8 PM: Larger clusters of storms are possible as the cold front pushes into far western Illinois.

9 PM and Later: Storms should be exiting the area, and calmer conditions will take over

Facebook Live isn’t working this evening. Trying to get it fixed so I can go over everything expect Monday. Stay tuned!

04/26/2026

We’re expecting two rounds of storms on Monday. The first will come in for the mid-morning through midday, and the second could arrive around the early afternoon. The first round will mainly carry heavy rain and some gusty winds, with very little threat of severe weather. It’s the secondary wave that would bring the bigger impacts to the region with the storm threats.

If the morning rain and clouds stick around without much clearing, then our severe threat would diminish slightly for the secondary wave of storms as they would use up more of the available energy. However, if there is a solid break or the coverage of morning storms is less, then the atmosphere would be able to gain instability and bring stronger storms for the second round.

Monday is still shaping up to be a very active weather day here in Central Illinois. Severe weather potential remains high. The Storm Prediction Center has us under the Level 3 out of 5 threat for severe storms. We're also carrying a 10% risk of tornadoes. The black lines indicate that, if tornadoes develop, they could reach EF3 strength. Supercells that separate from the main line of storms would pose the greater tornado risk.

We are watching a line of storms moving through Iowa and Missouri on Thursday evening that will impact Central Illinois by early Friday morning.

The line of storms still looks like it'll weaken as it moves into our area. Our only storm threat will be damaging winds up to 60 MPH, but the tornado and hail threats are nonexistent.

Saturday and Sunday both look like beautiful days to get outside, whether it’s for work or pleasure.

Significant severe weather is possible on Monday.

The line of storms is still on track for an early arrival on Friday, but it still looks like they'll weaken as they move into our area. The latest high-resolution model has storms hitting I-55 around 3AM on Friday. They'll move east, hitting I-57 closer to 5AM. Rain will continue through midday, then wrap up by the early afternoon.

Another day with 80s dominating the forecast. Most of the area is 10-15° above average for late April. This will be our last day of 80s for a while. We'll cool back into the 70s Friday through Monday, and then return to temperatures closer to the average.

We've got what looks to be a very active start to our day on Friday. Showers and thunderstorms will make their way into the region around 4-5AM. Expect to see heavy rain and potential for storm winds to reach up to 60 MPH. Storms do appear to weaken as they make their way to the eastern side of the state, but it's going to be a wet and windy morning.

We’ve got one more day of the Summer-like temperatures before our next cool down arrives on Friday. Thursday will again feature high temperatures in the low to mid 80s, making it our warmest day in the extended forecast.

A cold front will push into the Midwest Thursday night, triggering thunderstorms by early Friday morning.

Another system looks to move into the region by Monday of next week, bringing even more rain and some thunderstorms.

Wednesday, April 22, 4:35PM

The latest high-resolution model (HRRR) has a strong line of thunderstorms pushing into Illinois after Midnight/early Friday morning. The line will weaken as it enters the state.

Storm energy looks limited at that point, but this system will still likely produce heavy rain and potential for damaging winds up to 60 MPH. Otherwise, our severe weather threat will stay low.
