We had storms roll through last night, giving us the perfect opportunity to show you how one of the products we carry works for one of our own shop pups.

In the video, you’ll see her after receiving her regular CBD-for-pets regimen, which we use to help support her through storm anxiety and arthritis discomfort. She remains fully alert, calm and present—without appearing sedated or disconnected from her surroundings. She’s simply more comfortable and better able to relax through the storm.

Before we bring something new into Roaring Lion Ranch’s Botanical Market & Apothecary, I like to actually TEST IT first!

Today I’m putting Organic Henna Hair Color to the test—and you’re coming along for the process, the experience AND the results. 👀🌱

🎥 So, how does henna hair color actually work?

Henna uses natural plant pigments that bind with the keratin in your hair, depositing color differently than conventional chemical hair dyes. Because it works with your existing hair color, results can vary based on your starting shade, percentage of gray, you hair’s ability to retain moisture and previous coloring.

✨ Here’s what I’m testing for:
• Ease of mixing & application
• GRAY COVERAGE 👀
• Color payoff & dimension
• Shine, texture & overall hair feel
• How the color develops over the next 24–72 hours
• How well it holds up over time

I’ve already tested their red with great results. Now we’re testing the Black—and because Black contains indigo, I’m specifically watching how it covers my existing red, how it handles gray/new growth, and whether we see any of those green tones people sometimes report with botanical dark hair colors.

🎨 AVAILABLE HERBAL COLOR OPTIONS:

🌿 HENNA — Best for those wanting classic warm copper, red or auburn tones. Especially noticeable on lighter or gray hair.

🍷 WINE RED — For those wanting a deeper, richer red/burgundy direction rather than traditional copper henna.

🤎 CHESTNUT — A great option for those wanting a warm reddish-brown/brunette result.

🤎 BROWN — For those looking for more traditional brunette tones while keeping the color botanical and dimensional.

🌼 BLONDE — Best suited for naturally lighter, blonde or gray hair looking to add warm/golden tones. Remember: herbal color does NOT lighten dark hair.

🖤 BLACK — For those wanting to deepen brunette hair toward very dark brown/black. This blend contains indigo, so strand testing is especially important—particularly on gray, blonde, bleached, highlighted or chemically treated hair.

🌱 IMPORTANT: These are botanical, deposit-only colors—not traditional box dyes. Your starting color, percentage of gray, previous color treatments, hair porosity and application time can all affect your final result. The same shade can look VERY different from one person to another!

That’s exactly why I’m PRODUCT TESTING before deciding whether we bring them into the Apothecary. 🌿

Because if we’re considering putting something on our shelves, I want to see how it ACTUALLY performs first!

🌱 Monday Motivation from the Ranch 🐝

Whether you prefer a perfectly tidy garden or a wild, overflowing garden bed—that part is your choice.

For us, the goal is simpler: grow food for our family organically, regeneratively and without unnecessary chemicals, while remembering that our gardens feed far more than just us.

This morning we gathered another round of fresh produce from our garden beds, while our squash vines are still blooming away. 🌼 We know those late flowers probably won’t have enough time to produce mature squash before the season ends—but we’re still watering them.

Why?

Because those flowers are still food for our bees. 🐝

And in just a few weeks, we’ll be harvesting honey from those same hardworking pollinators. 🍯 It’s a beautiful reminder that not everything growing in a garden has to end up on our plate to have value.

The squash feeds the bees.
The bees pollinate the land.
The garden feeds our family.
And eventually, the bees share a little sweetness with us.

That’s regenerative living in its simplest form—learning to work with Mother Nature instead of constantly trying to control her.

Our purpose is to help those in our community who want to learn—or sometimes relearn—the basics of being good stewards of the land. Gardening, pollinators, wildlife, pond management, homesteading, foraging, animals and simply understanding how the pieces of a healthy property work together.
