Two of our founders were involved with Citizens Bank on Commercial Street.
It took a while, the Bank moved to 308 South Ave in 1935, but twenty years later, in November 1955, “The Chairman said customers are complaining there is no sign on the building or door, making it hard to locate.”
Protection Equipment Company, of Minneapolis, MN had been contacted regarding the installation of a chime clock with the bank name illuminated a representative had called at the office and left material and pictures of the style recommended. Board approved instillation of the clock designated "the Rockford" was contracted for $2,752.
We opened in our current location in 1968, but in 1967, “Layout of a time clock for the front of the building was presented. Purchase price would be $3,550 plus tax, permit, and maintenance.”
Citizens Bank, of course would eventually move to Boonville, off Commercial Street.
“Uncle Tom” Watkins was a beloved member of the Springfield Community and ran Citizens for years. Mr. Watkins was one of two employees when the bank opened in 1902 and staying involved until his death in 1968.

We are pleased that at the time of his passing, long time board member Jack Hood was the subject of our trivia question. Please keep Jack and his family in your thoughts. Along with being one of the founders of Hood-Rich Architecture, Jack served on the Board of Systematic from 1979 to 2016.
