I am a firm believer in evidence-based, compassionate and informed care, particularly in the perinatal period of child-bearing persons. I am working to level the mortality and morbidity that accompanies childbirth and is far worse for Blacks, Browns and Indigenous people. Perinatal health outcomes are declining in America and I hope to be a part of the reversal in that trend. Childbirth education

Stories like this motivate and empower me as a doula!
With my first daughter, we had a bit of a scare when her heart rate dropped and I was induced with oxytocin. I was hooked up to many machines, I couldn’t walk around but I could stand. When the nurses checked on me, I kept asking where the baby was in my pelvis, one of the nurses was confused, but another nurse had followed Spinning Babies® lessons and knew exactly why I was asking. It was my first baby, I was about 5 hours into labour, when the nurse told me where the baby was, I was at about 5cm dilated. I did side lunges until I felt more pressure, 20 minutes later—I was 10cm dilated and ready to push! It was incredible, one nurse was on break and by the time she came back-I had the baby!
My midwives were so supportive and made sure I knew all my options, Spinning Babies® empowered me. What started as powerless, being rushed into a room, poked and prodded—ended up as a successful, healthy, empowering situation. I can’t say enough about Spinning Babies®!

Love this. Healthy farming makes healthy eating, which makes healthy families!
Join us in honoring some of history’s most notable Black innovators in agriculture who laid the foundation for farming as we know it today!
Let’s hear it for a man born right here in the Ozarks! George Washington Carver is well known for his work developing new products made from peanuts, but did you know that he was also a soil health advocate and developed a new method for crop rotation?
Carver realized that “soil in many southern states had been stripped of essential nutrients like nitrogen from repetitive cotton planting processes,” and “promoted practices that seem commonplace today like composting soil with organic matter,” (gillsonions).
Not only that, but Carver was the first African American to earn a bachelor of Science degree and went on to study plant diseases, attain a Master of Agriculture degree, and share his agricultural knowledge with other Southern farmers to help them save money and produce higher yields on their farms.
