....last night at the annual AIA Prairie Chapter Design Awards we received an Excellence Award in the category Adaptive Reuse/Preservation/Restoration for our Fourth Level rotunda railing project for the Office of the Architect of the Capitol - a project that brought many team members together....

....a little over 102 years ago on June 3, 1916 Margaret Miller Baker purchased 2 lots in a new subdivision called Orendorff Place in Springfield, Illinois - almost 9 years later on May 12, 1925 she purchased 14 more feet (by the depth of her adjacent property) of land facing Woodland Avenue - in 1916 she and her husband, Mandelbert W. Baker, constructed 1119 Woodland Avenue - the Baker’s were the grandparents of retired Springfield attorney Alfred “Pete” Baker LaBarre....

....always fun to find stuff when working on historic projects - Ed Gonet working on the mantel of Edwards Place’s Second Level Northwest Bedroom discovered an 1899 Indian Head Penny and a post card from 1914 - the Second Level restoration is well underway - history within history....
