The Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault has a two-fold purpose: to alleviate the suffering of sexual assault victims and to prevent sexual violence.

Prairie Center values the unique identity of every person we serve. We welcome all genders, races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientation or identity, ability, or religion.

Over the past few days, PCASA has seen a lot of people hurting, people in a community that is known for bringing others so much joy. We offered to help in any way that we could. As a result, we have received requests for trainings, materials, services and collaborations. We have plans to develop new trainings and curriculum that are dedicated to ensuring local theater is a safe haven for creativity and expression.

But we also need to see new, more effective, survivor-focused, transparent policies and procedures be introduced, procedures that will hold accountable unsupportive leaders in charge of protecting those working within their organizations. These must include confidentiality, safety to disclose and resources made available to those affected by inappropriate actions.

The challenges that the community has experienced and continue to face are devastating but they have also ignited powerful conversations about respect, accountability, and the importance of safe spaces for everyone involved in the arts. Keep those conversations going.

Thanks to the cast of Mamma Mia for their support last night and continued support throughout the run of their show. Congrats on a great opening night!

To all of our theater friends, we know that the show must go on. And PCASA will be sitting in the front row supporting you every step of the way. ❤️

Let's talk about Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention...

In our community, raising awareness about sexual assault in any form is vital for creating a positive environment for everyone. Understanding the signs, supporting survivors, developing effective reporting procedures for those in leadership roles and implementing clear policies to prevent harassment is crucial for everyone's safety. Awareness encourages open conversations, helping survivors feel comfortable to share their experiences, build a support system and seek help. Knowledge is power. By educating ourselves and others, we can recognize harmful behaviors and intervene when necessary. A united front against sexual assault fosters a culture of respect and safety, where everyone feels valued and protected.

Let's commit to being informed, supportive and proactive. BELIEVE SURVIVORS. Hold perpetrators accountable.

PCASA is available to present educational trainings on consent, boundaries, sexual harassment, bystander intervention and more. Our 24/7 crisis hotline is 217-753-8081. PCASA also provides free and confidential counseling for sexual assault survivors ages 5 and up.

When you Google "Women's Safety Items" and "Men's Safety Items", two very different and obvious results appear. Men's items focus on function while women's focuses on vulnerability. Let's work on creating an environment where women feel safe and empowered. Whether it is in our communities, workplaces, colleges or online, every action counts. Speak up, support one another and advocate for change.
