Hey there, my friend! As we dive into the winter season, it’s the perfect time to talk about something close to our hearts – self-care. Yes, I know, our schedules are jam-packed, but trust me, even in the midst of the hustle, small things can make a world of difference for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Let’s explore some winter self-care rituals together. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Now, I get it, not everyone has a bathtub, myself included. But hey, I choose to make the most of my shower routine. Picture this: cozy music, flickering candles, and the soothing aroma of essential oils. Ah, pure bliss. For those with tubs, think Epsom salts, calming lavender, or invigorating eucalyptus. And hey, I’ve got a playlist recommendation for you: Bella Grace: The Ultimate Cozy Playlist. (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/76trb8R7vDkhnNfLDXOt6V?si=27ff4ba57e3e41d1) Music that warms the soul, just what we need.

Winter is the perfect time for comfort food. Soups, stews, and hot beverages that not only warm our bodies but also nourish our souls. Check out these cozy family-friendly recipes from Eating Well: Cozy Family Friendly Dinner Recipes for Winter. Trust me, these recipes are like a hug for your taste buds.

Staying hydrated in winter is a must. How about a warm cup of my Apple Cinnamon Rooibos Tea, a comforting elixir that not only delights the senses but also brings a myriad of health benefits. Fresh apples infuse this brew with a dose of antioxidants, while the naturally caffeine-free rooibos tea offers a gentle boost to well-being. Combined with the warmth of cinnamon, this aromatic concoction becomes a deliciously nourishing treat for both body and soul, making each sip a moment of cozy self-care.

Some other cozy hydration options include infused water with seasonal fruits or a comforting mug of hot cocoa. Hydration with a touch of cozy, my kind of winter treat.

Our skin needs extra love in winter. Try this DIY Winter Skin Cream. Just mix shea butter, coconut oil, and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Voila! A moisturizing blend to keep your skin happy. Gentle exfoliation and protection from the cold, and you’re good to glow.

Embrace the winter chill with mindful walks. Bundle up, breathe in the crisp air, and let the serene beauty of winter landscapes be your companion. It’s a simple yet powerful way to connect with nature and yourself.

Ah, winter reading! For me, nothing beats cozying up with a copy of Bella Grace magazine. It’s like a warm hug for the soul. Check it out here and get ready to be transported to a world of comfort and inspiration.

Reading is a highly personal activity and everyone’s tastes are different so I am not going to give a huge list of favorite books here, but I will recommend signing up for GoodReads if you haven’t already. You can enter your literature preferences and even link with friends to get recommendations based on your preferences and previously liked books. To get you started, here is a link to their “Winter Reading List Books“. (https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/winter-reading-list)

𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐱𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬
Now, let’s talk relaxation. Deep breathing, meditation, or gentle yoga, choose what suits you. Need a little guidance? Spotify has some great guided meditations to choose from (I love Tracks to Relax podcast!)

𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝟓 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 / 𝐃𝐈𝐘 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐚 𝐃𝐚𝐲
Pamper yourself with a DIY winter spa day. Try a moisturizing mask: mix honey, yogurt, and a dash of turmeric. For a refreshing scrub, go for a coffee body scrub. Simple ingredients, but oh-so-luxurious.

𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐅𝐮𝐧
Stay active with winter-friendly fitness. Whether it’s snowshoeing, indoor workouts, or even a dance party in your living room, find what brings you joy and keeps you moving.

𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐱 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬
And finally, let’s talk about a winter digital detox. Take a break from screens, embrace real-life connections, and focus on the present moment. Trust me, it’s like a breath of fresh, crisp winter air for your soul.

So there you have it, my friend. A winter self-care guide tailored just for you. Remember, amidst the busyness, taking time for yourself is not a luxury but a necessity. Here’s to a cozy, mindful, and self-caring winter!

💫 The Joy of Everydayness 💫

At Teacup Tranquility, we know motherhood is filled with magical, simple moments—moments that may go unnoticed if we’re not looking. Carmen Marie Laird’s piece in Bella Grace is a beautiful reminder to pause and find gratitude in our everyday lives. 🌸

Take a moment today, breathe, and notice one thing you’re thankful for. Share it with us below! 👇💕

The Joy of Everydayness by Carmen Marie Laird

I know that I am blessed, and I am thankful for the many ways in which these blessings have manifested themselves. In the forms of food, shelter, and clothing. Electricity and hot running water. Transportation. Family and friends and health, to name a few. I realize there are many less fortunate than I am, and it is not lost on me that without these basic needs being met, I may very well not be able to appreciate life’s simple pleasures — those that come from a place of beauty in the mundanity and the everydayness of living. This alone is a godsend and the reason these small gifts are the ones that fill the gratitude pages of my journal. If you were to peek inside, you would find a spread (or three or four) titled “I am Thankful.” A few passages, each beginning with the words “I am thankful for …” might read as follows...

As moms, our cars are basically second homes—whether we’re chauffeuring kids to soccer practice, waiting in the never-ending school carline, or zipping to work. While it can feel like wasted time, car time is actually prime self-care territory! Here’s how you can sneak in some self-care while you’re parked or driving (safely, of course).

1. Mindful Breathing Exercises
When you’re stuck waiting in carline or at a red light, take a few moments to focus on your breathing. Try box breathing: Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold again for 4. Repeat a few times to release tension and center yourself (without scaring the PTA president parked next to you).
For you Wellness Warriors, this is a perfect way to check in with yourself.

2. Quick Stretches & Posture Checks
Sitting in the car for long periods can turn you into a human pretzel. While parked, try shoulder rolls, neck stretches, or even a seated twist. For longer drives, check your posture—adjust your seat to avoid hunching like Quasimodo. Straight spine, deep breaths, and you’ll feel less tension by the time you arrive at your next stop.
DIY Divas, don’t forget to create your own stretching routine!

3. Practice Gratitude
Whether you’re sitting alone or have a car full of kids, take a moment to list 3 things you’re grateful for. It can be as simple as “I didn’t spill coffee on myself today” or “Everyone got out the door with matching socks.”
For the Reflective Moms, this is your moment to shine!

4. Listen to a Podcast or Audiobook
Turn your commute into “me time” by diving into a great podcast or audiobook. Whether you’re into self-improvement, humor, or true crime (just not with the kids!), it’s a great way to unwind or get inspired.
Here are a few worth checking out:

The Calm Collective (Mindfulness/Wellness)
The Lazy Genius (Helpful hacks for busy moms)
Brené Brown’s Unlocking Us (Inspiring and real)
[Feel free to swap in your own recommendations here!]
For the Knowledge Seekers, this is a great way to feed your mind while driving.
5. Mini Meditation
Download a meditation app like Calm or Insight Timer and squeeze in a 5-minute guided meditation. You’ll be amazed at how much more relaxed you’ll feel before dealing with post-school meltdowns.
Mindfulness Mamas, this is for you!

6. Hydrate & Snack
Let’s be real—sometimes we forget to drink water. Keep a water bottle in the car and sip while you wait in line. Pair it with a small snack (almonds or fruit) to keep your energy up. You can’t pour from an empty cup, right?
For the Nourishing Moms, this one’s tailored for you!

7. Be Present and Observe the Little Things
Sometimes we’re so caught up in our thoughts that we forget to notice what’s around us. Instead of zoning out or ruminating, try being mindful of your surroundings. Pay attention to the color of the sky, the trees swaying, or even that playful squirrel darting across a fence. It’s a great way to ground yourself and reconnect with the present moment.
For the Nature Nurturers, this is a perfect way to get out of your head and into the beauty of the world around you.

And for those times you aren’t alone in the car, don’t let the opportunity pass you by!
When the kids are with you, use this time to engage them in conversation. Ask open-ended questions like, “What’s something fun you did today?” or “If you could invent a new holiday, what would it be?” You’ll be surprised by what they’ll share when they’re a captive audience!
Conversational Queens, this is your time to shine!

With these simple self-care tips, you can turn carline into a mini retreat or at least a little slice of calm before the next busy activity. Just remember: no multitasking while driving—except for breathing, of course.

“You can’t pour from an empty cup. “
As moms, we often put everyone else’s needs ahead of our own, but “You can’t pour from an empty cup” reminds us that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. You can’t give your best to your family if you’re running on empty. Taking time to recharge allows you to be more present, patient, and nurturing. So whether it’s five minutes of deep breathing or a quiet cup of tea, small moments of self-care matter.

“Take care of yourself first.”

Closing Out Summer with a Backyard Family Movie Night
Summer vacation might be coming to a close (or over for some of you), but quality family time together can last all year. One of our favorite activities is Backyard Family Movie Nights. This week, we are watching Ryan Reynolds’ “IF”! If you haven’t seen it, I definitely recommend it!

Weather permitting, this can last well into the fall. It brings the whole family together and is a wonderful way to create great memories. The best part is how easy it is! Set up a screen (you can buy one or just use a sheet pinned to a fence), set up a projector (we use this projector with our Roku stick), have everyone set up their own comfy seating (camp chairs, cots, pillows, blankets, etc.), and provide some snacks. That’s all you need!

We like to have tiki torches with citronella for a little atmosphere and to keep the bugs away. Sometimes we have a fire in the firepit and make s’mores. Other times, we start early with a BBQ for dinner and some outdoor fun and games. Do what is fun for you and your family.

Setting It Up:

Projector: We use this projector with a Roku stick.
Screen: Use a bought screen or a sheet pinned to a fence.
Seating: Camp chairs, air loungers, pillows, blankets – whatever makes you comfy.
Atmosphere (options): Tiki torches with citronella, firepit for s’mores.
Family Movies:

Up to 7 years:

“Moana”
“Toy Story”
“Frozen”
“Finding Nemo”
“The Lion King”
8 to 13 years:

“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”
“The Incredibles”
“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”
“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”
“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”
Teens:

“The Avengers”
“Jurassic Park”
“Guardians of the Galaxy”
“Back to the Future”
“The Hunger Games”
Snack Ideas:

Popcorn (classic and flavored)
S’mores kits
Fruit skewers
Nachos with cheese and salsa
Mini sandwiches or sliders
We’d love to hear from you! What are your favorite family movies for a backyard movie night? Share your top picks and any fun tips for making the night extra special.

My Summer Reboot: Taking a Break From Screens
Hey everyone!

Sorry for my brief absence, but I decided to dedicate this summer to focusing on my family and spending quality time together. Now, as school is about to start again, I’m reflecting on a summer filled with fun activities and a lot of screen time. From reading extensively on tablets, playing games, researching for family projects, to zoning out (yes, I do enjoy some good “let go of the world and let your mind wander” moments!), it’s been quite an adventure.

With the new school year just around the corner, I’m gearing up for the routine: setting alarms, packing lunches, and transforming the van back into the shuttle for school, activities, and playdates. But before the hustle and bustle begin, I want to shut down, reset, and recharge. The best way to do that is by putting the screens down and allowing my mind to refocus.

Benefits of Taking a Screen Break
Taking a break from screens offers numerous benefits:

Mental Clarity: Reducing screen time can help clear mental clutter, leading to better focus and creativity.
Eye Health: Giving your eyes a break from screens can prevent strain and discomfort.
Improved Sleep: Less screen time, especially before bed, can improve the quality of your sleep.
Physical Health: Stepping away from screens encourages more physical activity, which is great for overall health.
Ideas for a Screen-Free Reset
If you’re looking to join me in this digital detox, here are a few simple ideas:

Quick Walk: A short walk in nature can be incredibly refreshing and invigorating.
Stretching: Take a few minutes to stretch your body, releasing any built-up tension.
Dive into a Hobby: Engage in a craft or hobby you love. Whether it’s painting, knitting, or gardening, immersing yourself in a hands-on activity can be deeply satisfying.
Quiet Time: Simply sit in a quiet space without digital distractions. This can be a perfect time for meditation or just letting your mind wander freely.
I’d love to hear from you! How did taking a break from screens work for you? Share your favorite screen-free activities in the comments below.

Let’s enjoy these last few days of summer by resetting and recharging together!

5 - Blend the mixture until smooth. You may need to adjust the consistency by adding more ginger ale or watermelon juice if needed.
6 - Pour the blended mixture into popsicle molds.

☕ Sip & Smile: The Magic of Virtual Coffee Dates for Moms ☕

Hey there, amazing moms! Let’s chat about the magic of virtual coffee dates, shall we?

A few years back, I found myself miles away from my bestie, missing her more than I missed my favorite Chinese takeout (and trust me, that’s saying something!). It was then that we stumbled upon the idea of having weekly “Coffee Catch-ups” over Zoom.

Every week, we’d cozy up with our favorite mugs filled with steaming java and dial each other up for a much-needed dose of friendship and laughter. We’d gab about everything under the sun—our kids’ latest antics, work woes, and even our wildest dreams.

And you know what? Those weekly check-ins became my lifeline, my sanity saver in the midst of the chaos. There’s something incredibly comforting about seeing your bestie’s face and hearing her voice, even if it’s through a screen.

It’s amazing how a simple cup of coffee and a chat with a friend can lift your spirits and recharge your soul. Those virtual coffee dates became the highlight of my week, a sacred ritual I looked forward to with all my heart.

So mama, if you’re feeling a little lonely or disconnected, why not give virtual coffee dates a try?

Grab your favorite mug, schedule a Zoom call with your BFF or a fellow mom friend, and let the magic unfold.
Trust me, you’ll be amazed at how much better you feel after just a few minutes of facetime with someone who gets you.

Because in this crazy journey called motherhood, we all need a little love, laughter, and connection. So here’s to virtual coffee dates and the beautiful friendships that keep us going, one cup at a time. Cheers!

☕🕯🔥🌷 Creating Your Personal Sanctuary: ☕🕯🔥🌷

Welcome to a space where tranquility meets personalization – your very own personal sanctuary to indulge your senses! As moms, our days are a whirlwind of activity, and finding a moment to decompress is a priceless gift to ourselves. In this article, let’s explore the concept of a sensory retreat, why it’s beneficial, and how you can craft your own haven for relaxation and self-reflection.

Why a Sensory Retreat?
Life is bustling with sensory experiences, and taking a moment to create a retreat allows us to hit the pause button and indulge in a little self-care. Imagine a space where calming scents, soft textures, and soothing sounds come together, providing a sanctuary to unwind and reconnect with ourselves. Whether it’s at the end of a hectic day or a quick escape during naptime, a sensory retreat offers a personal oasis in the midst of life’s chaos.

My Sensory Retreat Story: Finding Peace in My Bedroom
For me, the need for a sensory retreat kicks in at the end of the day. After the kids are tucked in and my to-do list is (mostly) conquered, my bedroom becomes my haven. The colors are warm and soothing, the “Peace” playlist on Spotify hums softly in the background, and candles in warm, spicy scents cast a gentle glow. I slip into super-soft lounge pants and a cozy t-shirt, settling into my comfy chair for a guided meditation. This ritual sets the stage for a mindful bedtime routine, creating a meditative atmosphere that eases me into a restful night’s sleep.

Crafting Your Sensory Retreat: A How-To Guide

1. Sight:
Choose warm and calming colors for your space.
Add soft, textured fabrics or blankets for visual comfort.
Consider using low-wattage, warm-toned lighting for a cozy ambiance.

2. Sound:
Create a playlist of your favorite soothing tunes or nature sounds (or find a curated one on Spotify).
Bring nature indoors. A small fountain brings in the sound of running water. Or find a soothing sound that resonates with you by searching for ambient sounds (birds, rain, ocean waves, forest, etc.) on Spotify

Embrace the power of silence when needed – sometimes, the absence of sound is just as calming.

3. Smell:
Select candles or essential oils in scents that bring you joy and relaxation.

Keep it personal – your retreat, your favorite scents.

Experiment with different aromas until you find what resonates with you. Some popular soothing scents include lavender, chamomile, jasmine, rose, and eucalyptus. I personally find warm scents like amber and sandlewood soothing.

4. Touch:
Surround yourself with plush pillows, cushions, or blankets. Pay attention to how the textures feel and look.

Opt for loungewear that feels soft against your skin.

Consider incorporating tactile elements like stress-relief gadgets or fidget tools.

5. Taste:
Keep a selection of your favorite calming teas or snacks nearby.
Sip on a warm beverage during your retreat to engage the sense of taste.

Mindfully enjoy flavors, adding a touch of indulgence to your sensory experience.

Using What You Have: A Sensible Approach to Creating Your Personal Sanctuary

Creating your sensory retreat doesn’t have to be a shopping spree or a quest for the latest trendy items. Often, we already possess treasures that delight our senses, scattered around our homes. That favorite blanket with a familiar softness, a mug with an uplifting message, or a lotion with a scent that soothes – these are the little delights we naturally surround ourselves with. Take inventory of what you already have and consider repurposing these items for your retreat. Embrace the joy they bring and let them become integral elements of your sanctuary. If you find yourself yearning for something new, explore second-hand shops or your local Buy Nothing group. You’ll be surprised at the gems waiting to enhance your sensory experience without breaking the bank. Remember, the essence of your retreat lies in personal connection, not the price tag attached to each item.

What’s Not in Your Sensory Retreat is Just as Important
While creating your retreat, it’s equally vital to consider what doesn’t make the cut. My retreat is in my bedroom, doubling as my office space. Recognizing the constraints, I keep clutter and digital devices at bay, covering my monitors with a fabric I found that I love. Even in shared spaces, finding small ways to eliminate distractions fosters a more tranquil environment.

Remember, your sensory retreat is a reflection of you, and there’s no right or wrong way to create it. Embrace the freedom to tailor it to your preferences, adapting to the space and resources you have. The goal is to make it uniquely yours, a haven that welcomes you with open arms whenever you need a moment of respite.

So, why not embark on this journey of self-love? Craft your sensory retreat, bask in the serenity, and let it become your personal sanctuary amidst life’s beautiful chaos.

Transform your family dynamics with our Family Expression Board! 🎨✨ Download our "What Color Do You Feel" chart and turn your fridge into a hub of emotions at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cm68BhqgclqfynbbougOLlA5jhN3XuTT/view?usp=sharing

Hey fabulous moms! Let’s dive into the chaotic world of family communication with a touch of humor and a whole lot of heart. We all know the struggle of keeping up with everyone’s thoughts, feelings, and schedules – it’s like trying to juggle flaming torches while riding a unicycle on a tightrope. So, how do we bring a little order to this circus? Enter the Family Communication Board!

As a mom, I’ve often felt like a mind-reader in a house full of mysteries. Who left the milk out? Why is someone sulking in their room? When is the next PTA meeting? It’s enough to make anyone want to escape to a deserted island for some peace and quiet. But fear not, fellow moms, because I’ve got a secret weapon – the Expressive Communication Board!

Now, this isn’t some fancy, high-tech gadget that requires an engineering degree to operate. Nope, we’re talking about a good ol’ whiteboard or chalkboard strategically placed on the fridge – the epicenter of family chaos and culinary masterpieces.

Family Expression Board: For the little ones, we’ve added a “feelings chart” and personalized magnets with their names. It’s like a mini-mood tracker that doubles as a colorful piece of fridge art. When they’re feeling on top of the world, they move their magnet to “happy.” If it’s one of those “meh” days, maybe it lands on “neutral,” or if it’s a “give-me-all-the-hugs” kind of day, straight to “sad” it goes.

And here’s the magic: we’ve all become avid board watchers. It’s like our family’s own reality show – “Fridge Chronicles.” I’ve caught subtle signals that might have slipped by me otherwise. If someone’s having a rough day, a quick glance at the board gives me the heads up to swoop in with a comforting chat or an extra dose of love.

This isn’t just about me keeping tabs; it’s a team effort. The kids are learning to express themselves, and the whole family is becoming more aware and empathetic. It’s like a crash course in emotional intelligence right there on the kitchen appliance we visit more often than the bathroom.

So, my fellow multitasking marvels, let’s embrace the chaos with a bit of flair. Create your Expressive Communication Board, turn your kitchen into a command center, and let the fridge become the epicenter of family connection. Who said communication couldn’t be fun? Here’s to expressive families and all the colorful magnets that make life a little brighter!
