What is a Bail Bond? A Simple Explanation from Craven Bail Bonds 🌟
Bail bonds can seem complicated, but we're here to make it simple. A bail bond is essentially a financial guarantee to the court that a defendant will appear for all required court dates. Here’s how it works:
1️⃣ Setting Bail: When someone is arrested, the court sets a bail amount. This is the money required to get out of jail while waiting for the trial.
2️⃣ The Bail Bond: If the bail amount is too high to pay upfront, that's where a bail bond comes in. You pay a bail bond company a percentage of the total bail amount.
3️⃣ Release from Jail: In exchange, the bail bond company provides a bond to the court, ensuring the defendant's appearance at court hearings.

Did you know there are more than one way to secure release from jail? Two main types are cash bonds and surety bonds
💵 Cash Bond
• You pay the full bail amount upfront in cash (e.g., $10,000).
• It’s refundable at case conclusion (minus any court fees).
• Requires you—or someone you trust—to have access to a large sum of money immediately.
🤝 Surety Bond
• You pay a premium (typically 10% of the total bail) to a licensed bail agent—so on a $10,000 bond, you’d pay only $1,000 (ask us about payment plans!)
• That premium is non-refundable, covering paperwork, expertise, and 24/7 support.
• The agent posts the full bond on your behalf—no massive cash sum needed.

Bail vs Bond – what's the difference? Bail is the amount set by the court to ensure a defendant appears at future hearings. A bond is a promise from a bail bondsman to pay that amount if the defendant doesn’t appear. We’ll help you understand the process and secure release quickly.

‼️SCAM ALERT‼️
Please share!!
We have heard several stories from people who have called us about an ongoing scam all around the Miami Valley where family of a loved one in jail receives a phone call from a “law enforcement officer” or “Sergeant” stating that if they pay a certain amount of money directly to them the individual will be released from jail on an ankle monitor. Sometimes, they mention the person needing anger management classes as well to be released.
The phone calls sometimes are local numbers, other times they may be out of state or private numbers.
Many people have fallen for this and it’s cost them thousands of dollars. We have heard from TWO people just today in different counties.
Red Flags 🚩 to look out for:
1) If someone soliciting you to send them money
2) They want paid via Western Union, Venmo/Cashapp
3) The person in jail has already been sentenced (and therefore can’t be released)
4) If they are calling you in the middle of the night wanting to put on an ankle monitor (home monitoring departments typically work daytime hours)
If you are questioning whether a phone call is a scam or not please give us a call!
