Many common yard sprays — like insecticides, herbicides, and even some rodenticides — have been linked in studies to higher cancer risks in dogs.

🐾 Research from veterinary schools (like Tufts) found that dogs exposed to certain lawn treatments, especially herbicides (like 2,4-D), are more likely to develop lymphoma and bladder cancer.

Why are dogs more at risk than people?
• They spend more time close to the ground where chemicals settle.
• They lick their paws and fur, ingesting the chemicals.
• Their bodies process toxins differently than ours.

Even if the yard feels “dry,” residues can remain on grass and soil for days.

If you must treat your yard:
✅ Use pet-safe products whenever possible.
✅ Follow the label and keep pets off treated areas as directed — often 24–72 hours.
✅ Rinse paws and bellies after walks in treated areas.
