Caught a bunch of bass this spring on the NEW Bill Lewis Fishing Hammer Flat Crankbait. February right up until the spawn is my favorite time to put the trolling motor on high and cover a bunch of water with flat sided crankbait. ‼️During the months of March and April - an oversized spinnerbait (my preference is a single spin) is a great way to catch size and numbers of bass in dirty water situations. There are several good 3/4 and 1 ounce spinnerbaits on the market. I still prefer to make my own for certain niche applications where modifying the arm length as well as utilizing a larger wire to support a larger blade and using certain hooks for different trailers can be a huge difference maker to stack the odds in your favor‼️

Stop #1 of the Open was undoubtedly a SMASH FEST. Unfortunately, with 12lbs a day, I was not a part of the smashin. No excuses, just never really figured the big ones out. Definitely learned a lot during pre-practice and during the event, already looking forward to another shot at Big Sam. So here’s to a thumbs up for Stop #2 at Grand Lake in April - time to dig out and make that top 50.

Practice is a wrap and day one of the first Bassmaster Open is kicking off in the morning here on Rayburn! Practice has been all over the place - they seem to be really biting, just hard to come across a bunch of Texas giants. I caught one of the wildest colored tatted bass I’ve ever seen and got to take advantage of some world class trophy white bass fishing. Ready to get this season kicked off - going out boat #40 with a 3:10 check in.

‼️The football jig is an absolute staple for fishing here in the Ozarks and is equally effective in other parts of the country. I have been very impressed with the Victory Hooks V-Loc line of hooks. The 11798 is light enough to get great hook pe*******on on a long cast but is extremely impressive as far as strength goes when it comes to NOT flexing out on a big bass. If your team isn’t playing today, it is a great time to customize your jigs for the upcoming season‼️

Slid down to Texas to pre-practice for the first Open. Wanted to take the opportunity to see the lake while it’s 9 foot low. Was fortunate to come back with the same lower unit I left with and even caught a couple big Texas bass in the process! Coming back to Missouri to snow flurries and sleet was the only downside 👎. Ready to get the season started!
