HALF OF CANADIANS CAN’T RELIABLY ACCESS A FAMILY DOCTOR.

That should be a national emergency.

A new Angus Reid study found 50% of Canadians either have no family doctor or struggle to see the one they have. A decade ago, it was 40%.

And the problem isn’t simply whether your name is attached to a doctor.

Only 15% say they can easily get an appointment within a day or two. That’s down from 24% in 2015.

CIHI tells essentially the same story from a different dataset: 82.6% of Canadian adults have a regular health provider, but only 26.8% can get same-day or next-day care when they need non-urgent primary care.

So where do people go?

Too often, the emergency room.

CIHI found 15% of ER visits were for conditions that potentially could have been managed in primary care.

Canada doesn’t just have a doctor shortage.

We have an access problem. A capacity problem. And a system-design problem.

We need more doctors and nurses, but we also need to change how care is delivered: team-based primary care, nurse practitioners, virtual care, better digital integration, more capacity and competition in delivering publicly funded services.

Universal healthcare should mean universal access to healthcare.

"JAQing off" is a dishonest debate tactic (tacdick?) known as "just asking questions" (hence the JAQ). Questions with genuine intent to learn/discuss are fine. However, JAQing off weaponizes questions to advocate bovine s**t, often hiding behind the defense, "I'm just asking questions," instead of being receptive to answers. In other words, such a denier/contrarian isn't interested in dialogue or learning. Their goal has a different direction (d'erection?) altogether: to spread the seeds of misinformation to as many conversational partners and listeners as they can.
