Fantastic Caverns was discovered in 1862 by an Ozarks farmer - or more precisely, by his dog, who crawled through a small entrance in a hillside. It wasn't until five years later that the first exploration took place: twelve women from Springfield, answering a newspaper ad seeking explorers, ventured into the cave. Fantastic Caverns is open 8am to dusk 362 days a year, only closing Thanksgiving day, Christmas Eve and Christmas day.
Tickets are only available in-person, first come first serve, for the next available ride-thru cave departure.
Ride-thru cave excursions are scheduled by demand, but occur regularly throughout the day. No need for reservations if your party consists of 19 or fewer people.
