Morning watering is the best. Watering late in the day or night can lead to lawn disease because the grass stays wet overnight.

Other than cooling turf not sure why people have sprinkles on in the middle of the day? You are losing 50-60% of your water to evaporation. You can get that rate to drop to 20-30% by doing it in the early morning or overnight.
