Tranquil Sound Gardens

I have updated the website to reflect my moving to Saginaw, Michigan, however, something is wrong with the “activities“ portion of the website. The ISP servers is continuing to put up an old page for that section. I’m trying to get it figured out.

Put more simply, I just play my instruments to cultivate tranquillity in myself and in others

Folks, I'm going to have to make some changes to the way I present my music.

My wife and I live with and care for my elderly father-in-law. He now needs more care such that I cannot get away from home to do presentations on any sort of regular basis. I will continue to hit the road once a year to present my music at Hexenfest (so long as they will have me) and at Patricia Hatfield's Harmony Drum Circle, also once a year. Other than that, I have to stay close to home.

What that means is, I am going to see if it would work to have people come to our home here in Hayward instead.

I will be inviting people here for three different activities:

1) Presenting the music of Tranquil Sound Gardens

2) Offering a tutorial on resonant percussion instruments, from a physics perspective. This is a very effective hands-on tutorial with a handout, but without any sort of certificate.

3) Hosting an informal annual(?) gathering of folks that play gongs and other such instruments to visit, chat, potluck, play for each other, and just get to know our musical neighbors.

Since we'll just be doing the above activities in our home’s living room, we unfortunately won't have the capability of hosting large numbers of people.

Anyway, I will be announcing dates and details for each activity in the coming months as I get myself organized around this new way of doing things. I do hope that some of you reading this can get to Hayward, California so we can share some fun musical time and musical learning together.

UPCOMING EVENT

At the Hexenfest Festival in Lake County, California, on the 12th of October, 2024

WHAT: I will be presenting my sounds once more at the Hexenfest festival. Go to Hexenfest.net for information about this gathering.

WHERE: Hexenfest is being held again this year at the Sarasota Springs Retreat Center, located off of California Highway 20, 4 miles west of Upper Lake, California. Go to sarasotasprings.com

WHEN: I'll start presenting the sounds of Tranquil Sound Garden at 10 AM, continuing until 11:15AM. I ask that folks attending this presentation make every effort to get to the Heart Lodge at 9:45AM so they have time to get settled down so we can start at the advertised time. As part of getting comfortable, please consider bringing a pillow and perhaps a warm cover, depending on the weather.

2024-2025 GENERAL

As 2024 winds down, I will see what is appropriate as we continue to learn to live with the pandemic. I will announce upcoming things here and on my 'Tranquil Sound Gardens' Webpage

2024-2025 SPECIAL NOTES

Due to changing family responsibilities, I am planning to only do a couple of events away from home in 2025. Instead, I will be asking my audiences to come to my home in Hayward, CA instead. This means small audiences, something like 6 folks max. I will ask for people to e-mail me or message me in Facebook when they wish to attend an announced event.

I will also look at doing another tutorial or two on resonant percussion instruments, and a free 'gong gathering' for SF Bay Area gong people to meet, visit, potluck, and play our favorite instruments.

and so I am working through a busy period right now - when things settle down a bit I want to put together another gathering of SF Bay Area folks interested in gongs and other resonant percussion instruments. Let me know if you are interested. This would happen here at my home in Hayward, CA

Having survived the big family holiday gathering here on the 22nd, I stumbled into the workroom this Christmas morning, looked out the window, and what do I see? The SF Bay Bridge main pier below a golden moon...Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Christmas Eve - Winter Solstice just past - New Year's day almost upon us. However you mark this time of the year, may you do so in health and happiness!

Pretty much everything around the house has been decorated for the Holiday!

At this hour of the morning, I'm not sure I even have a mind!

Finally, a performance! I'm heading up to Santa Rosa on the 21st of May, 2023 to present Tranquil sound Gardens in a double feature with Patricia Hatfield's Harmony Drum Circle. Details to be found at tranquilsoundgardens.net. Next, I need to put together some resonant percussion tutorials here in Hayward. I'll look at the calendar and put up some proposed dates. I'm flexible, so if you are interested in a tutorial to help you better understand your gongs, chimes and bells, let me know what dates/times would work for you.
